First off ...nice site you guys have built here
I feel bad comming here and my first post is one asking for help, but i am really stuck so here goes.....
My good buddies sony Viao pcg-8mr is dead (i told him to buy a toshiba...lmao) .
Now this machine was working fine one day and the next morning -nothing, completly dead. My fist thought was no power, so we checked for voltage at the power supply = it was fine. Then we dissassembled the unit and checked for voltage at the mother board...fine also. We've checked the battery fine, on off switch- fine....but other than that there seems to be no voltage anywhere.
Does anyone have any sudgestions as to what to check next?
Any ideas vey welcome

Unless you have a schematics or testing rig you have to try and trace the supply rails on PCB and check outputs on componets....
Sony Vaio's tend to break down more the any other make or brand of laptops...
I take it the unit has not been dropped etc, any how try resetting the bios underside the may be a tiny pin hole, if so take a paper pin and use to reset bios by pushing in this hole...
Does it show any sign of power without HDD installed?
Has any memory been added lately?
Try reseat the memory make sure they are firm home in their rails/slots.
If you can try installing another HDD just for testing to see if any change.
