4750 problems......yay.

Yep, I should have figured. I've only had my lappie in my possesion for 3 days and it's already crashing. I am running windows XP proffesional, and I have all the latest drivers and bios revision 1.03. I must say that I am really dissapointed in this product now. I purchased this computer because it was the most powerful Athlon 64 notebook on the market, but what's the point if everyone's 4750 crashes? I've had my system freeze while browsing the web twice and I've had games crash/crash my system multiple times. If I try to play Doom 3 on low setting for more than 5 minutes my notebook gives up. Also the speaker quality just isn't acceptable on these. I heard a few people mention not liking the sound in these, but I had no idea that there was simply no way to listen to a song and not have the speakers crackle on certain notes. I don't really want to RMA my notebook, seeing as how most people here are having similar problems which means that all if not most of the notebooks are factory defective. I purchased my notebook from M-Tech, and they have the horrid 15% restocking fee. Will the 15% restocking fee apply to returning a defective item? Sorry if I sound like I'm bitching, but I spent a lot of money on this thing and I'd at least like to be satisfied with my product.

Oh yeah, I've also had my dvd-rw lock up on me twice and the laser damaged one of the disks it was reading during the process.

I also want to note that I installed all the drivers in the specific order given in the manual. I also installed Norton Personal Firewall before I even connected to the internet for the first time on it, so my problems could not be virus/hacker releated.

Woah. Alright first of all is the laptop propped up? Second of all what temperatures are you getting? If the laser damaged a disk, which I have never heard of before, you have to send it back for rma. Its possible you have received a lemon. Ogre did too. As for speaker quality have you set it to use 6 speaker using the blue icon with the speaker in it that controls your systems sound? that should improve the sound. I do not have crackles in my sound unless its a poor sound file and I haven't really had that problem. As for gaming I need to know the temperatures.

do what maya said and also try testing each of the ram sticks and rescrewing the heatsink onto the cpu.

Here is a picture of the disc, not the wierd foggy area in the upper-right:

I am positive this disc was in pristine condition. This *was* was Doom 3 play disc before the 4750 damaged it. I haven't adjusted the sound as you stated above Maya, I hope it gets rid of the crackling. I'm not sure how to test my temps on the notebook, should I download a certain program? I currently have my laptop on an Aluminum laptop cooler with built in fans powered by USB, so I can't really think of any precaution I could have done otherwise. Man, I couldn't tell you how excited I was when this notebook arrived. The only reason I purchased from M-Tech was because they assured me that I would not have even one dead pixel. Well, no dead pixels here, just a boat load of other problems.

Your disk doesn't look damaged from the picture. I would try cleaning the disk with alcohol wipes and seeing if it works on another computer. Test a cd you don't care about to make sure the cd player is screwing up your cds.

Think you can get a better pic of the disk. It just kinda looks like a disk. Are those puck marks on it?

I know someone (cant think of name off the top of my head) who has a 3790 that scratched a radial (I think that's the right word)scratch as if the lens had dug into the disk. Weird for pucks to appear from using a drive. Maybe it had something to do with heat? That would tie it into the rest of the problems. But how hot would it have to be to physically damage a CD?

that first sentance is a question, forgot my "?" and for some reason, I cannot edit the post

The damage to the disc is definitely from heat (I presumed it was from the laser). The disc isn't scratched, those marks you see all over the disc is actually just some dust in my scan bed. Well, I've decided on just biting the bullet and completely returning my notebook. Since the 4750 was the ONLY notebook I was interested in at the moment I suppose I'll just have to wait until Clevo takes care of these heat issues and releases a revision 2. Thanks for all the help guys.

Um, The heat issues have been taken care of. You have a lemon like I said. Nobody else has had those problems. Also you ordered from m-tech.
And you still haven't given me any temperature readings.

#1. Dude change that sig of yours, from the looks of M-Tech homepage. they are not sager reseller, they look like Eurocom reseller.

#2. Contact M-Tech and demand you want to return or a replacement unit, without the 15% restocking fee because it isn't working as it should from the date you received it.

How do I get my temperature information? I'll gladly post it.

Also, M-Tech is actually a Pro-Star reseller. Pro-Star and Sager both built and ship their units from the same distributor in the City of Industry, Ca.
When I ordered my notebook I had no idea how much Adam@PCTorque would fight for his customers or I would have ordered from him. I made a mistake from not ordering from a more notable reseller, but I figured that since the notebook I was looking to buy was just a Clevo D470K that I could order it from the person making the best offer. M-Tech was actually $80 more expensive than PCTorqe, but I really liked the idea of no dead pixels. In actuality, if I would have known that they were shipping from Pro-Star I would have known that they lied about the "no dead pixel" policy, since Pro-Star has never claimed that. If you don't mind answering this question, what was fixed to change the heat problems aside from the bios revision since the chasis revision is still 1.0?

There was a fan firmware posted on this site. That really improved the temperatures and allowed you to safely use the powernow setting at laptop setting without fear of damaging your hard drive. Pro-star may use different parts than sager as well, so it could be that. I get 55*C while gaming on cs source for 2-5 hours, i have a fan pointed at the bottom of course to stop my arm from sweating, but the bios and firmware really lowered temperatures for me. Also remember I applied arctic silver 5.

My components:
AMD Athon 64 3400+ DTR
NEC 8x DVD R/RW+- Dual Layer
Hitachi TravelStar 60gb 7200rpm
(I havn't checked my memory modules yet)

So, where can I download a problem to report my temps? I'd like to do everything possible to get my 4750 in tip-top shape.

Um, Tenchi I think your a bit confused. All these companies are Clevo resellers. Sager is a reseller for Clevo just like everyone else including M-tech and Eurocom.
