power supply noise?

I noticed lately that my power supply ( I have a NP8790 ) will make noises like it has a speaker in it. When Its just sitting there... and I hold it to my ear (or right now about ear level but about a foot away) I can hear the hard drive activity in it.. just like I would the speakers on the laptop.. or sometimes if I plug headphones into it. I first noticed this yesterday when I was on the phone.. and I was actually hearing the clicking noise that cellphones make when near speakers... but I didn't have any around.. and here the power supply was actually making it. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem and what they have done... I also don't know if I should call Sager about it or not. lately I've been thinking about trading for the smaller PSU with the fan in it (saw a posting of it before on here). Any suggestions would help. Thanks!

I've been hearing that same noise... it hasn't effected my computer any so I've just been ignoring it... is that a bad idea???

I've already contacted Sager about this and they give no response. All I know is that their "engineering" department is supposed to be looking into the issue. I've contacted them since and still no response. Hasn't affected my performance or anything so I'm assuming it's ok. Probably just some nasty feedback on the power lines.

My power brick makes a pretty constant sizzling sound.

I wrote tech support and they said it was supposed to do that when it started up.

I wrote back and and said "ok fine when it's starting up, but all the time?"

No response for a week.

I asked my roommate about it and he said his PS (Compaq) Actually has a speaker in it. He found this out because his dad mistook it one day for another adapter and plugged it into another device, and it started beeping at them. Maybe Sager did the same thing? Allwell, haven't noticed many problems with it like that (just when phone rings.. or lots of HDD activity and the fans are on low.. I can hear it (since I had it on the shelf above the laptop and near my head (maybe this is a bad idea if it decides to blow up? )

Ya guys my power supply does the same thing. Do you think there is a connection between that noise and the ahrd drive speaker noise?

Hmmm

Noticed it recently on mine as well. It's quiet and I cant hear it unless I have the brick sitting next to my laptop.

It may not be an actual problem but I would recommend not leaving it plugged in while unattended until we get more answers from Sager.

Yep, noise is directly related to a noise some people pick up in their speakers/headphones/firewire, what have you. quick fix is to get one of those adapters for the power supply that turns it from a 3 prong to a 2 prong plug. worked for me, and I do professional audio with the thing ^.^

Getting one of those wall adapters wouldn't help (actually this weekend I had to use it at a house I was house/dog sitting at, they only had 2 prong outlets) and the noise was actually louder, but it just could been coincidence. Its still going on, on mine, even tho I've had two diff motherboard (possibly a third now.. sending it back out today.. oi). I don't notice it as the adapter is normally either on the floor or away from hearing range.
