Two laptops, single docking. HP issues.

Hi!

Seeing as there is no HP forum, for some reason, I'll post this here.

I'm in the market for a new ultraportable laptop w/docking. I'll probably go for the HP nc4010, which looks like a sweet machine. Now, the thing is that my girlfriend is also looking for a laptop to help in her studies, but she wants one that's as "cheap" as possible. Now, my idea is that if she's able to find a HP machine that will fit the port replicator that fits the nc4010, we can both use the same resources (not at the same time, obviously), such as external monitor, keyboard, hard drives etc...

However, it seems that none of the "cheaper" models from HP support the port replicator, but I'm having a very difficult time confirming this, since HP does not list a compatibility list on their web site when it comes to the port replicators.

Does anyone know of a low-end HP laptop that can be used with the port replicator?

In a related matter, does anyone know if the simple port replicator that HP offers supports the external optical drives? It would be nice to have one attached to the docking and not having to unplug it every time I undock the machine.

Thanks in advance!

It seems the lower-end HPs have their own port replicator, which was what confused me. I didn't realize they were two different solutions. I had checked out the nx9020 for my girlfriend, which was listed as compatible with one of the port replicators in some places.

Linkage:

HP nc4010

Advanced port replicator

Simple port replicator

Does anyone know if the Evo laptops listed as compatible are discontinued? I can't seem to find them in any web shops.

HP's nc/nw-series is the successor of Compaq's Evo series. So yes, Evo is basically discontinued.
