Disabling the touchpad?

Thread Starter
Is it possible to disable/enable the touchpad? Since I only use a mouse, I find it to be annoying sometimes when I'm typing and my palm would touch it and screws up my typing. By the way, I'm using i8600 if that matters. Thanks.

You can't if you don't have a trackstick. The only thing you could do to make it unresponsive -- as far as I've found and without killing the touchpad altogether -- is to make it as unresponsive to touch as possible.

Set the touchpad option in the BIOS to serial mouse, this will disable it if you're using a USB mouse.

A piece of carboard secured by duct tape would do if you don't mind looking at it, you could put colorful mouse pad over it, 2 & 7/8 wide and 2 inces vertical would be your measurment of the touch pad only! Add about a inch veritical and 2 & 7/8" for touch pad and 2 buttons below would be coverd by some cardboard, black electrical or duct tape. Colorful piece of mouse pad with the cardboard could be glued to the mouse pad, scratch proof to making the mouse slide or buttons pushed.

on my i8600, I disabled "tapping" the ability to tap on the touchpad area and have it interpreted as mouse clicks. Try Control Panel -> Mouse, and depending on the device driver, maybe look for a touchpad tab and disable tapping, might help.

MAN I wish I could get a hold of some to that stuff, ever since I became disabled friends one by one moved on. I was just giving the dude a easy way to not touch the F**** touch pad. He complained about I sure as hell didn't, I have Logitech optical red ball mouse you don't get carpal tunnel syndrome from. When your not typng you can click lock the drag bar, just everythin except to jac u off .
