Sager 9860 review - Page 2

Couple of probably dumb questions. If I order with one SATA hard drive, can I order the spare drive from you guys later? Also, how hard or easy is it to install the second hard drive. And finally, how difficult is it to make the drives Raid 0?

Wow. I guess that this puts my plans for the Acer Ferrari on hold. This could be the best $3000 I've ever spent!

WOW and glad I bought mine on Friday morning. I have 2 questions.

1. How easy is it to cahnge out the ODD drives ?

2. From the BIOS pics, the one with boot order, can you add USB or Firewire HDD's from the excluded area to the included area ?

Sure, we will have the SATA drives on our site as soon as we can. Actually Sager made it really easy to mess with RAID, as many 8780/8890 user will attest to... the dip switches were a pain. The options to enable RAID are in the BIOS now.

Now does it have dvi unlike the original 4750 rumour would? I want to be able to game on two screens. I guess I will have to sell a body part. I don't know how I'm going to come up with 3000.

Of course this unit has DVI! You can game on 2 screens if the game supports it of course.

1) I updated the review to show the removal of the media drives.

2) Yes, you just select and hit "X" to move them from the excluded area into the included area.

Great review, and that looks like an incredible machine.

Is the 5400 SATA faster than the 7200 ATA, even as a single drive?

I'm just configuring to order now. But I noticed that the TV-Tuner is an extra $50 now..

Was it originally included as default?

I don't have any benchmarks to show you, but the 5400 SATA will fall behind the 7200 without the RAID setup.

Yes they were at first, but many of the parts and options are looked at as limited supply from Clevo with all the orders coming so we're making everything an option we can to avoid backorders to the best of our abilities. The price was reduced to reflect the base model coming without the TV tuner once it was removed as standard and made an option.

Forgive me for not keeping up on the latest with this machine - will a WUXGA version ever become available?

The DVI out (thank god it's not vga) makes the WUXGA thing less important to me, but if there's a wider screen in the works, it would be great to know about it before I order. My 5670 is still going strong after 1.5 years, but I'm feeling the need to upgrade soon.

Without the tuner can we still do video-in with svideo or dvi?

I could care less about the cable hookup. But being able to have a feed from an editting station is important.

is this the same case as the new voodoo envy? the specs seem all the same except for the dimensions, the sager is a little thiner.

The WUXGA is rumored to possibly show up some time in December, but until the LCD manufacturers actually begin shipping them out for us to use there's no way to get a solid date. The WUXGA will likely ship from Sager no later than it begins shipping from any Clevo model name.

Zoober, you can capture through the S-Video input the TV tuner has built in. Without the TV tuner, you do not have the capture feature.

dj, Sometimes you'll see differences in weight and size even though the models are the same. Some measure the height minus the foot pegs that make the laptop stand off the table for better air flow. For weight, some may have taken a prototype weight or with some missing features... the TV tuner was a late arrival.

Where'd the 5690 go?
