Alumenium case for the new 7700

Do AW Alumenium case can hold the new 7700 model, or its size is limited for the previous model only.

According to the max dimensions listed for the case, the 7700 is too thick. I wouldn't be suprised if they released a bigger briefcase near the beginning of the year.

Even alienware doesn't call this a notebook, they call it a "Mobile Desktop"

Seriously, the thing is a beast. The A51m2 was at least reasonable in size. This thing is just... Well, huge, heavy, ugly. The a51m2 was a great looking laptop. This is thing is like a hummer compared to a sports car.

if you like the aw and prefere it than the Sager one so its good. but i think moving to the wsxga with higher resolution will be better for finer image also get the most sheeper windows version where its easy to install the uptp date windows for less price... about warrenty be longer .. i don't think its a good idea except if you work in a heavy duty fields. for the ram i knew that 4 moduls in 2 GB memory will be faster that 2 module also you won't be able to upgrade to more than 2.6 GB ram to some SW limitation expect if there will be any bios upgrade will solve this.

Completely on topic!

I've been thinking about this rig (7700) and had a couple of questions..

1.) If you buy one with only one optical drive do you think you'll be able to buy another one later and install yourself? If so, from AW or off the shelf? AW has no 7700 CD/DVD's listed in Gear shop.

2.) There is no case listed during the configuration process.. The XL backpack option is apparently gone? Anyone know of good aftermarket cases that would hold this behemoth?

3.) This Sager/Clevo based system seems to be very tied to Nvidia. Any concerns with being able to upgrade to an ATI based GPU in the future?

4.) Concerns early in this thread about the price seem slightly unfounded. I ran the same config for both the Sager 9860 and AW 7700 and they seemed to be within about $50 of each other..

5.) Does everybody assume this new rig will have the same range issues with it's internal wireless setup. Is it still the wise move to just get an external PCMCIA card? If you get the wireless option (it's only $38) can you still get an external and use it instead with out having to remove the internal?

That's probably enough for now.. Thanks.

1. Probably, we will just have to wait and see. I would recommend getting 2 drives maybe a dvd burner and then just a regular cd-dvd drive.

2. Roadwired has good cases.

3. Yes, there is a post about a 800xt option availble in December. My bet is it will be able in January. (Just read the post.)

4. Not a question.

5. Yes, you can get internal wireless and when you want to use external turn it off and pop in the external card. (I would recommend getting both in case you forget your wireless card or if your PCIMA slot breaks. Shouldn't happen but happened to my brother's two year old laptop. Back then they were using the same case that the Sager 15 inch UXGA model is using.)
