The Official Alieware Area51m 7700 Thread - Page 7

Hey i got a few questions...

I was wondering about the hard drives? is the 7200RPM 60GB a big differnce over the the 5400RPM 60 GB? one reason i want just 1 HD cuz i thought it might save some battery life.. if battery life wouldn't make any differce would the 80GB (40GBx2) raid 0 be a better choice? also how much weight would taking 1 HDD out save?

also i'm still not sure if i want the 5500 or the 7700 ... the 7700 isn't too big for me.. just bigger than what i want.. is the Dual Channel Ram, 2 Disk Drives 2 HDD, numpad, bigger procceser , 256MB video card, and probbaly a few other goodies i've forgotten.... worth losing over 4LBs and a couple inches???

2.) There is no case listed during the configuration process.. The XL backpack option is apparently gone? Anyone know of good aftermarket cases that would hold this behemoth?

Dan
the good carrying case as Mr. niftymatt say is the Roadwired which i knew it from him, and there is also a very good one which is ZERO Halliburton but ... you have to pay for it

check http://www.luggagepros.com/, also u will like it

I've read that the clock speeds on the 6800go vary between 300/300 and 450/600 (core/mem). Which of those speeds does the 7700 run at? Anyone know?
I believe the 7700 actually has one the 450/600 one. Not completely sure about that, but I know for a fact that it doesn't have the 300/300. I read somewhere that there are actually 3 types of 6800Go's.

I also have a question. Does the 7700 have carbon fiber around the keyboard like some other Area-51m's have had?

Display Question???

I hope this is the right spot for this question...... anyway, I'm considering the 5500 or 7700* for some graphics and video editing. Does any one know if you can hook up a second monitor so that you have a dual monitor set up. Being able to spread out some tool trays and a time line while video editing would be very helpful.

Keeping in mind I'm not a computer expert I have called myself looking for this info on the AW site with no success.......I would take this to mean you can't.

I'd be greatful for any input!

Thanks,
Jason

What's with the asterix after 7700? Is that your way of saying Alienware on Steriods

You can set them up to use the laptops screen as the primary and another display as the secondary.
Lol.... no, that's the one I'm mostly considering.

That was a really big concern for me. From what all I've read these are great computers and I really do need a portable computer. The second display is almost a "must have" for me. Mainly for the video editing.

All of the photos I've seen with the second monitor have displayed the exact same image. I didn't know that you could do "ether, or"

Thanks a ton for you responce. And that Storm Trooper gif........has me rolling!!!

Why Didnt Alienware Release A Few 7700 For Review..like Sager

Am A Alienware Fan , Never Bought One But I Been Planning On Buying One For The Past Couple Of Years ... Well I Notice How Pctorque Already Had A Quick Review On The Sager New Laptop... Why Didnt Alienware Release One Early And Review On It... I Bet Alienware Will Get More Customers Like Me, Because Am Waiting For A Review To See How It Performs So I Know What Am Gettting Into , First I Would Like To Notice If The Weight Is A Big Factor Or If The Battery Life Is Alright ... Am Hearing The Sager Laptop Battery Doesnt Make The Sager Perform Well, Doesnt Perform The Same As If It Was Pluged In... Well My Point Is They Should Of Released Atleast 4 Laptops And Released It Out To Good Review Sites Or Ect.. So One Can Give A Good Review On It ..that Way Us The Customers Know What We Getting Into Cause I Know They Are Many Like Me That Are Stuck Not Wanting To Push That Button To Find Out Stuff Later On.... Get My Drift I Hope This Helps Get My Point Across.... I Know My Paragraph And Grammer Aint The Best But Bare With Me....thanks Alot For Taking Your Time.. Would Like To Hear Others Comment On This..

I agree with you. In my opinion it's usually the case that when a merchandise is sold, without being properly reviewed, may be an indication that the merchandise has obvious issues or expected to not receive high scores compared to it's competitors. Again, this is just my opinion and may not be the case in this instance.
Hmm...maybe it's because they haven't really built enough to send out as test beds for reviewers yet? ^^;; Just a thought, since my guess is orders are backed up to the wazoo on it (yeah, I'm waiting for mine too.)
allow me to rephrase my questions...
How good is the Alienware Customer Service?
How good is the Technical Support Representatives?
and finally, for those of you that have Alienware Notebook Gaming systems...how do they compare with similar systems from competitors who make similar type gaming systems?

;-)
