Acer won't come alive after exchanging motherboard

I got an Acer 1310 with an AMD 2400 processor which was not working.
(pressing the 'on' button would only make the fan spin for a couple of seconds) I was really happy when I could buy another mainboard including an AMD 1400 processor out of an Acer 1300. It fitted nicely in the casing, and I checked: these mainboards are interchangeable in with the attached hardware. This second mainboard has improvements over the first one, but I am not quite happy with the result;

If I press the on/off button, the led on the mainboard lights up, the fan spins for a few seconds and the series of leds light up. Also the cd-rom starts spinning a bit, and I can hear the harddrive spin. The screen doesn't come on, and I also tried the external VGA: to no avail. I can hear no beeps that point out something is missing or wrong, so I am clueless of what to check next. I also exchanged memory out of a working laptop, and I really like this notebook to eventually work. Could anyone tell me what I overlooked, or should check?

BIOS
Just because a MOBO is interchangeable between models does not mean it shares the same BIOS....
Find out if they share the same bios if not you'll need to get the bios for that unit.....
A very good example are Sony Vaio of this method....

What does the BIOS have to do with it?
I did not use the bios of the first mainboard onto the second mobo...

Are you trying to use the 2400+??
I'll have to check, but they're probably different sockets...
try powering it up with the 1400+.

Is it a Duron or Athlon?? They may be compatible.. both 266fsb...

I am using the Aspire 1300 Mobo, that comes with the AMD xp1400 processor. I also tried the 2400 in that mobo, made no difference.

If I was guessing (which I am.. ;]) I would say it was something with the power supply or battery... try just battery no a/c and then no battery and just a/c...
I believe the power module is on the motherboard... so it may take issue with the newer power supply..

Well, on second thought... if its only the display your not seeing.. its probably the video adapter. Is it on-board? or a module?
Also, crack it back open and check all your cables... especially the lcd connection...
