Is anyone having good luck with the new bios?

i have run far cry on this notebook for hours with the graphics card overclocked to hell and back (around 500/310) with no artifacting whatsoever. i now can't run ANY 3d game without artifacting at default clocking... something clearly isn't right, i've tried sagers drivers and omega's...

if someone could be so kind mattycreekan@msn.com is my e-mail, if you have an older bios sitting on your drive somewhere please send it my way, i don't think sager got this bios right and im very upset and frustrated right now.

you said you cant run 3d games without artifacting at default clocking...does this mean you are using the stock settings again? 405/250 (i dont remember what the memory speed was...)

did you forget to OC it back to 500/310 again?
are you using the omegas? or sager's regular drivers...

yes, by default clocking i mean 405/270... and i have tried sagers drivers and omega's, no difference whatsoever... i can't seem to be able to role back to bios either using a .o8 bios adam posted a long time ago... so frustrating, sager is supposed to be e-mailing me both the .08 and the new .10 so ill try those, if that doesn't work ill send her in to get looked at.

i think im gonna try the burn in test now to see if that shows anything

ok..i was confused at first...i was just thinking in terms of far cry....i was going to say....i dont think the new bios is going to make far cry run THAT much better....you still probably need to overclock.....
but now i'm thinking when you say ANY game...you mean that EVERY game you try to play has artifacts...even games that arent very demanding..like warcraft 3 or something...or even unreal tournament set to a 1024x768 (my 8790 only lags if i set it to 1680x1050)....
yeah, definitely sounds like something is wrong...my sympathies...
my NIC seems to have stopped working tonight..i might be sending mine in soon too i think...

maybe you ruined the gpu overclocking?

no... its not ruined, i have not overclocked for months and have ran many 3d games, i only ever over clocked for far cry...
blah blah blah... and actually i have had the gpu replaced once already... and i don't believe this one has ever been overclocked

a little update... loosened skrews underneath keyboard (another post on board) didn't help. playing with directX diag when i do the direct 3d test the directx cube is spinning at about 100 miles per hour, i don't remember that being the case when i've ran that before... not sure what it might mean or how to correct it
post #8 of 35
i would think that's a good thing that it's spinning that fast...faster the better!
did sager ever send you the old bios? did you try asking luke?

got both the old and new bios today... and no success. wander what fried it, i never overclocked this one or anything, might try reinstalling windows just in case it might be software, but i have an rma # and looks like this is getting sent back for the second round of a motherboard replacement

sort of the same problem, mine just runs hot, and starts artifacting, no overclocking whatsoever, I did once when I first got it for benchmarking purposes.

tried the latest omega's and the latest new bios enabled drivers off sager's site.

This is a NEW problem.

after installing a fresh copy of windows and only enough drivers to try out running something 3d it was the same result, shiped the laptop out yesterday

Mine is okay if I drop the clock speed 50 points. but even at Bios default, it will still artifact after about 20 minutes of running graphically intensive games.

you shouldn't accept that... most people get away with overclocking about 100 mhz, i used to without any problems whatsoever for hours on end and never saw a single artifact or glitch
post #14 of 35
I am actually running most games fine with the new bios and 4.9 omegas at default clock speed. I can overclock the hell out of Star Wars Battlefront but if i overclock Farcry 490/290 or even 460/270i get RAM artifacting withing minutes on a cool processor... about 48c... I am just as baffled as you guys.. keep this post going and let everyone know if you find a resolution.
Anybody have any updates as to why OC'ing the gpu causes artifacts in some games, but not others or why we used to be able to OC to 460/290 with our original bios, but not with the new one?
this is so wierd....i am still waiting to get my 8790 back from sager after rma'ing..(bad ethernet port..)
but i will reinstall alot of these games and try them again...
i've been oc'ing at 460/270 something, maybe 280... before and after the new bios...
i havent played doom3 or unreal04 since i updated...
but i have played star wars battlefront, call of duty expansion, warhammer40000-dawn of war, and something else, and i have had zero problems....oh, roller coaster tycoon 3, and halo 1, halo 1 seemed to run a little better than it did before....that's playing it at 1024x768 with a few of the settings on high...and i think vsync turned on, with 30 fps locked...this is all OC'd at the settings I mentioned before....
hey, everyone who is having a problem..when did you get your machines? i wonder if something changed from the first batch to the next few batches? i got mine in may..

Mine comes from one of the first runs. It might be a generation issue.
This is related to my new belief of avoiding the first run and buying about the 3rd generation of the same tech (not waiting forever for the new stuff, just waiting for some of the new features of the same tech like the new screens). One of the reasons why even if I could afford the new 9860, I wouldn't because I would wait until it had been around for a while until the quirks had been identified. Example: several 8790's have ethernet problems, mine included (until recently). The 9860 is going to have problems, guaranteed. Many are waiting until Bluetooth modules are available, others are waiting for the new screens. Personally, I'm waiting for money and the AMD processor version.

I just think it's something in the new Bios.

I never used to get such heavy artifacts playing games at default bios, but now i have to underclock the gpu.

Also my FN+F10 function does NOT work.

I bought my machine in April.

FN+f10 works for me on the new bios....
maybe you have to flash the BIOS again?
i think if i were you i would talk to adam/luke or sager support directly before trying that...just to make sure that's the right course of action...
