Annoying problem with my 5690

Hi!

My notebook hates me! Ok ok I know, but I´m very confused. The problem is that sometimes after surfing or working 10 minutes for example, games turning into a dia-show. 15 seconds slowing down, 30 seconds or so normal. Today I have the problem even in desktop mode. I was surfing and suddenly at a post with really many smilies the same symptoms appears: CPU-load at 100% and a likely dia-show. Then i´ve noticed the cpu-temperature: 73°C at 5% load!
A restart solves the problem not really; I have to turn off the notebook completely. Hmmmm, I guess it´s the heat-throtteling of the P4, but why? Is the heatpipe to weak? Air intakes are clean...

My hardware:
-Sager 5690
-P4 3200 HT Prescott
-2x512MB Apacer CL3

Please help me!

Manuel

That is way too hot...something blocking your fans/vents? Do they look clear?

Nope, nothing in there. I also applied some Arctic Silver or so to the heatpipe. I´m installing some security updates from Microsoft right now, the load ist at 15-25% and the temperature is at 68-73°C - sometimes up to 80°C!

Hmmm, what can I do now?

Thats definately too hot, but I noticed you said you applied Artic Silver TO the heatpipe? Elaborate on that one.

Ok ok, it´s not Arctic Silver, but rather some kind of silicone paste, the white standard one. Do you think Arctic Silver 3 would give me better temperatures? Or is ist better to downgrade to a cooler P4 2.8 HT?

@Amir
Hehehe, not what you might thinking...
In other words: I applied the paste to the heatspreader of the cpu. Better?

Weird. I have never had my temps go above 49C, and that was after 8 straight hours of Doom 3 without max fan running.(I forgot to turn it on). Sounds like you definately did something.

what are you using to monitor the heat? Screen shot?

Have you used any of the tools in the ATI control center or display panel to adjust the speed of the graphic card?

Have you applied thermal paste before (my experience is people put WAY TOO MUCH paste on, and actually reduce temperature transfer).

@Gerry
I´m using MobileMeter. This tool is using the internal diode, whright?
The R9700 is running at standard-clock. And I applied the paste correctly...

@Artorius
Do you have the Prescott or the normal HT? Because it´s known that the Prescotts getting "a little" hotter...
A 3.4 and only 49°C? Read out with MobileMeter? Hmmm, weird. But my temperatures were always that high, from the beginning on. Hmmm, I think the problem is the heatpipe itself. The CPU is running at 66°C and the airflow is only at 33°C @17°C room temperature (open window ). Shell I change the heatpipe?

I have the P4 3.4Ghz Northwood. I use mobilemeter. My temp right now with just surfing is 39C.(with max fan running on auto)
HDD#0 29C, HDD#1 28C.
