why is this so tough for me sigh.. i think i want the dell because ive always wanted a dell notebook..

hp's got more stuff about 150 cheaper.. but the dell weighs less humm help

Wow...........that was a lot of posts in a hurry!

You might want to edit your original post next time.

Aside from all that politically correct stuff.............

I'd say go for it however you like it. I think there's a bit too much of a premium on modular dvd burners right now, but if you really want it, just get it. You'll never wonder "what if".

And remember you always have 30 days to send the thing right back to Dell & get your money back. At least play with it for that long & see if it suits you.

Way too expensive. The gig of ram is killing the price. Order it with 512mb (free upgrade at the Small Business site right now), or order with 256mb and upgrade on your own.
I found out 1x 1G ram from Dell for 600m is cheaper than from crucial.com thou.
it is nice to have the DVD burner in the laptop. I kind of wish I got the upgrade for the burner, but i know i do not really need it right the way, and I always can get the part from dell (should not cost too much different to get a part rather than upgrade during the ordering process).

I always wonder why ppl buy dell when the other laptops are cheaper and including more stuff.

hey, but i do have a dell CSx and a new 600m. If it was not the 750off deal, i might not get the 600m thou ($$).

mhx,

Just about anywhere will be cheaper than Dell so you certainly can't go wrong with any of the above.

superfire,

Noticing the *heat* with your new 600m??? I'm debating back & forth whether it's worth keeping or not. Most noticeably with the ram bay door.

yea.. feel some heat from the left palm rest area. i believe that is where the rams are??
Left palm rest is the hard drive, the RAM is on the bottom sorta in the middle.
so should my left palm rest feel the heat? or should not?

I usually do not place the laptop on my laps. i will check if the RAM door generates heat or not.

You might also wanna look at getting more storage. I'm not sure how your going to be using your laptop, but I personally feel 40GB not enough. Again, it really depends on your usage.

Hope you find something that works. I just received my 700m a few days ago. I'm very happy with it thus far. Great machine!

The left palm rest is not where the hard drive is located. The hard drive is located on the right side of the keyboard toward the screen.

Sorry, for some reason I thought this was referring to the 600m. You are correct regarding the 700m.

configuration

If you don't use dvdrom burner then i'd wouldn't get it. it's neat to have and is only $127 more than the cdrw/dvd combo, though. I would just go ahead and get the 80GB HD now for $86 bucks more than the 30GB that you are thinking about. it's gonna cost you double that to replace with essentially the same 80GB drive if you wait. even if you don't need that much HD space, it will boost your overall computer performance over the 30GB. I bought 1GB RAM module from www.oempcworld.com for $235 for the low heat/low power version (code: 1.0G-SO2700LH) designed for the athalon and apple powerbook (but it works just as well in PC2700 computers) since i was putting it in Slot A under the keyboard. They will buy back your RAM which you probably will get back the difference of getting the 80GB HD now (they give about 40% off of what they sell your returned ram for). The normal 1GB (1.0G-SO2700) module is $230, so for $5 more i get a lower heat producing, lower power consuming module.

also, as many others have done, i bought the 12" zeroshock sleeve from www.shinza.com

i also ordered, custom cut LCD protector from www.lcdprotector.com since my last laptop's lcd got all messed up and it's expensive.

i also bought 3 year complete care on site (dell bumped me up to 4 year though). i normally don't do extended warranties, but for laptops and my experiences with laptops, it is worth it to me to have accident coverage.

i want a 7200 rpm hd, theres no point to put money into a dell hd at 5400 it would be a waste for me thanks for the info tho
