RMA'ing my 8790 because of ethernet issues...

i'm having the same problem as everyone else all of a sudden.
my ethernet port just stopped working....
sometimes it picks up that the cable is connected, usually it tells me there is no cable connected...in either case i never get an IP address, or see the network....

I have tested my cable and lan connections, they are active and working fine....
i've tried 2 different hard drives with 2 separate windows installations...neither work..so i know it cannot be a software issue...

any tips on what i should tell sager in my included letter, so that they do what is necessary to fix this problem? i do not want to get it back and still have problems a month from now.....

dont know how to put it in your letter, but the very same issue appeared on my d870 two weeks ago. at the moment im on my cable net connection so this plug works, but several cables at my university that looked unused didnt work while other battered ones worked. sometimes i got the connection working by stupidly plugging and unplugging time and again. at some point i got the idea, that the contacts might have coroded or something, but they look just fine.
please post, what sager makes of the issue.
im abroad at the moment and sending my lap in would cost! so im rather keen on whether there sager has something smart to say about it.

if you scan through all of the 8790 troubleshooting posts, i've seen at least 3,4, or 5 other people with the same issue!

Ditto. I just went out and bought a wrireless router. If anything else goes wrong and I have to send it in I will have that fixed too. But it works for now.

keep in mind how long you have till your warrantee is up..you definitely want to get this fixed while its still free...

I have use a PCI ethernet card in my 8790 because my dorm's connection is 100mbit and sager's ethernet gigabit card doesn't scale back to 100mbit. Maybe you should try with a PCI ethernet card.

I had the same problem. Along with many others. Finally, pulled the plug and got rid of it.

wow

This is rediculous. My 8790's ethernet port just stopped working also. I'm glad I've found that its not only mine. Are you others with the issue contacting Sager? If so, let me know what the outcome is as i'd like to get this fixed asap.

i contacted sager...told them about everything i tried....(basically shut every door on them trying to troubleshoot, or not give me an RMA..)

I tried different cables, different ports/hubs/routers...nothing...no lights, no activity...
tried different harddrives....reinstalled windows....nothing...

definitely a hardware problem for me....I sent it in..they had it for 3 days, i emailedthem on the 3rd day to ask how things were going, and they wrote back saying it was shipped that day, and gave me the tracking #.....(they have 3 days to fix and ship back..)
unfortunately, they ship it back with UPS ground...so due to REALLY bad timing...(they received it on a Wednesday...3 business days gives them till the following monday.....they ship it monday...ups ground..probably 3-5 days? think again...turkey day is thursday, then who knows if anything moves on friday, then another weekend...i finally get it the following tuesday....that's no one's fault except bad timing tho....either way, everything's working great since i got it...they replaced the system board...as i was guessing they would...i'm happy...i think they even cleaned my screen, cause it looks quite beautiful...or maybe i just missed seeing it...

My Laptop started doing this the last few days... And know it doesn't even see it being pluged in.

One thing I did notice is that I can get connection if I use a cross over cable.

One question. Has the network port been working fine since they fixed it? I don't want this to be a ongoing problem.
