first, the XPS can come wit 80GB 7200rpm HD. second, I just bought a 700m from someone on ebay, without problem. I also took safeguards. I read his history (100% and sold alot of stuff). I sent emails and asked specific questions and ensured he emailed with my question in the thread. i paid by paypal and credit card. I require contact information as well as communication through paid email service. The auction you posted: the guy only has sold items. that doesn't mean he isn't a good seller. You have to buy the seller before you buy the item. I don't think he is pushing money orders. He accepts paypal. It looks like he is recouping paypal fee by not offering free shipping. now he doesn't include shipping and handling fee, so that is one question i would get from him first. I've seen people sell computers with buy it now feature and then charge a $150 shipping and handling fee, which means that they try to lure you with low buy it now price but then you pay three times normal shipping. that's ridiculous. you can also have him email you the invoice or give you the order and customer number so you can verify on dell's website. also, in your email ask for the service tag and express service code so that you know it matches if by chance you get it and all of sudden it doesn't. oh, looking at the invoice on line will also let you see if it indeed is an 80GB HD. If I were selling, and I do sell other stuff, I would be more than willing to provide documentation in order to ease potential customer's concerns.
Now the Dell warranty/service issue. I just went through this and didn't have any problems. You will need the order number and customer number. Here's link to transfer internationally the warranty: notice all the info you will need and make sure you get it http://www1.us.dell.com/content/topi...=19&l=en&s=dhs
In my case, the seller transferred it for me. it can take up to 14 business days for transfer. I called dell and pushed the issue and it only took a couple of days. I wanted to buy extended warranty and complete care so they accomodated and ensured warranty transfer once the seller submitted on line. You can buy extended any time during the basic warranty period. but you only have 30 days from invoice date to buy complete care (this is the accident coverage). also, if you buy extended within the 30 days from invoice, you will get reimbursed the full cost of the basic warranty (for me it was $140). However, there is a hitch to this: the reibursement of the $140 is supposed to go to the original seller. In my case, dell was worked with me and just deducted it and charged the end cost. I was very pleased that they would do this. plus right now, they also give $75 rebate. now it is true about international transfer has to be 3 year next business day.
Here is a big question you should ask, if you go to the dell france (or any europe Dell site), you will not see inspiron XPS sold. http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/de...hs1&l=fr&s=dhs
so, where did he get them? did he buy from the U.S. and have shipped to France? That's another issue. also, he doesn't mention anything about dell's warranty being included in the sale (many folks like to mention the warranty if selling on line), so that's another issue.
