Blue Screen of Death

Hate to be the first to post a problem with the 9860, but . . .

When I load Yahoo chat and enable a voice chat with a friend it gives me an error saying "unble to initialize audio mixer" or something like that. I click "ok" and it let's me talk just the same. Then when playin EQ2 all of a sudden I got a blue screen of death message about a device driver. I figured it may be audio mixer related, however it was suggested that I disable my anti-virus while playing EQ2 so I disabled it and didn't get the blue screen anymore.

This isn't much of a problem since I can just disable the anti-virus before I play, but do you think it may be related to the audio drivers rather than the anti-virus software running in the background? Thoughts?

Thanks!

I didn't install any drivers. From what I thought I read the drivers came pre-installed since I ordered an OS from them (XP Pro). Is this not the case?

I'm using Norton Anti-virus part of the Norton Systemworks 2004

Thanks for you help with this. Had one instance today where the EQ2 client had a fatal error and needed to be shut down (not a blue screen, but. . . )

Not sure if this will help at all bro but luke posted this on another 9860 thread earlier on:
Just an FYI for all of you ordering with no OS, the drivers on the driver CD for video are not the latest version out. Sager is currently installing the latest drivers on all notebooks being ordered with an OS, but those who went with no OS will have to download the latest drivers from Sagers site version 67.50.
I realise u ordered with an OS but it might pay to check JIC

Sounds hardware problem to me.Most propably problematic RAM, or Video Card.

I think it is a GPU issue since last night playing EQ I didn't get a blue screen, but in game the entire computer just froze, couldn't move the mouse or ctrl+alt+del or anything. Had to do a hard reset. Doesn't that normally mean a GPU issue?

thx

Actually, just from my experience with problems just like this on Sagers (I have an 8890, and had an 8887), this sounds like a memory problem. If the memory sticks aren't paired correctly you can get blue screens and lockups in games *just* like that. Not certain that is your problem, but it is definately a possibility, if it's a hardware problem. If you eliminate all the other possibilities and think it is memory, Sager will cross-ship you new sticks, they were very cool to me about it on my 8890. They had me pay for the memory, sent it, gave me an RMA for my current sticks, when the new memory arrived I popped it in and sent the old sticks back and they credited my money back when they got it.

Hope it's something simple like this and not something more serious.

Did that fix the problem for you? No more locking up?

J3rd, check Nvidia's site..a new driver was released on the 9th for Nvidia cards, and EQ posted the game wouldn't run correctly without it... Also check to see if there is an update for the sound. Do a test, diasable sound in your hardware manager, including half/full duplex if your not on a modem. Run the game again and let me know if its still crashing on you... EQ2 has ALOT of sound to process with all the voice overs and it has been causing problems with some peoples systems and EQ recommends making sure you have the latest drivers..

Thx Syn, I'll try that!
do all possible combinations of your ram sticks - assume two sticks A and B

Try with only A - two times - once in each slot
Try with only B - two times - once in each slot

this will help you confirm RAM problem / Ram Slot problem

It doesnt look like a GPU problem from the message you posted. It is either RAM or the Wireless card. What is the IRQ of the card and are there any other devices sharing the IRQ with the wireless card?

Hope it works for you.. Im doing various tests now with the sound...my motherboard is a few years old so no more updated drivers..i'll probably have to disable it and buy a PCI sound card like sound blaster. Do me another favor, once you turn your sound on again, run the same test you did last night at high performance in the game..I think you were running at high quality..trying to see again the size of the page file and cpu usuage.. I don't think its the 9860 that's a problem or the gpu..I think EQ is a little under on the ram requirements...that game is a memory whore if i've ever seen one.. loads of fun though

What server are you on.. im on the first rp server..
