Asus 15.4 XGA or 15.1 SXGA

Would you opt for Asus m6bne 15.4 XGA or 15.1 SXGA m6bn.

I'll be using the notebook for business - word, excel, powerpoint - general usage - surfing, email, etc. and some light to moderate gaming. At this point I don't anticipate wathcing many DVD's (who knows what tomorrow brings).

Has anyone compared screens. Are they of similar quality? Should I assume viewing angles would be better on a widescreen? This is the last issue standing between me and a new Asus. I understand that screen real estate is similar and I have gone to various stores and compared side by side but I keep changing my mind and keep recieving conflicting advice. I'm hoping someone might have had both Asus' in front of them and can comment.

Lastly, does anyone know whose LCD Asus uses and if they are on other notebooks I might be able to find at a Comp USA or BB to check out?

I would take 15.1" SXGA. It's got 44% more screen estate (pixels).

Can I assume that more pixels equates to clearer text/images and more text/images on the screen.

Does it effect viewing angles at all?

I have a question about the same models too... other than the wide-screen real-estate, I assume that the case is configured different too? Is the keyboard the same? It doesn't seem to be on their site.

The case is the exact same for both models... the only difference is the screen width.
Other than that... they look EXACTLY the same (either case closed or open)

No. It doesn't affect viewing angles at all. Widescreen displays typically have better viewing angles. You must check these out separately, if Asus provides such information.

I don't know if the images are "clearer". It is also a separate screen property.

More pixels means just that you have more work space. Good for office work, programming, photoshopping, etc. Not necessary for games.

i thot there are ppl with problems with the 15.1, thats why most ppl go for the 15.4

i now have an m6n with the 15.4" widescreen xga. I used to have a toshiba w/ a 15.1" sxga. At this point its a tossup:

-the extra screen real estate (pixels) is nice, and i thought i would miss it, but its not that bad w/ the widescreen. still better than standard xga
-the viewing angles (left to right especially) are a lot better
-gaming in widescreen for games that don't have built-in widescreen support kinda sucks (especially RTS games, makes things look really effed up.) u can disable the widescreen stretch, but then u'd have two bands on the sides of ur screen. i use that and it works fine
-watching movies is about the same either way, probably a bit better with the widescreen. but still, the black bands top/bottom don't affect me here either
-IMO widescreen wallpapers are tiiiite. especially panorama scenery. just gives u a greater sense of the sheer magnitude of the mountain/ocean/city/whatever

nothing kills it for me or sells it for me either way. maybe one of those things will for u tho.

lol...yeah.... honestly...i like my widescreen 15.4" although viewing angles aren't great, they are noticably better than the sxga on the sager 5xxxx lappys

I have the M6Ne 15.1" notebook...
LCD has no problems here... except 2 stuck pixels
but we can't ALL have perfect screens... unfornately.
viewing angles are just as good as the next 15.1"... however more people do tend to opt for the widescreen.
I personally prefer the higher resolution

I have the 15.1" version also, it took me quite a while to make the decision though, I just preferred having the real estate. No dead pixels and maybe I'm just not so picky, but the viewing angle problem thing doesn't bother me much at all, I barely notice it
