amd64 speed changing by it self.. RMClock or Speedswitch XP.. which is better

i have a uniwill 258ka0

sometimes my cpu switches to half the max clock for no reason..

if i play a game.. sometimes i exit and see that speedswitchxp is showing me running at 798mhz instead of 1.6ghz.. it boots up into 1.6ghz tho..

this problem is occasional, it doesnt always happen with specific programs so its hard for me to understand whats causing the drop in cpu speed..

if i go into speedswitch xp and change the profile from Max Performance to whatever else.. and then back to Max Performance.. it instantly goes back to runing at 1.6ghz again..

so im thinking is this a problem with speedswitch xp ?? should i use RMClock? its formerly known as AMD64CLK... i donno if anyone has any experience with this..

what program is better for keeping my processor running at full speed all the time.. while plugged into AC..

thanks.. its fustrating how this problem occurs rarely and i have no idea what the cause could be.. most of the time my system runs at 1.6ghz with no problems..

and its not heat.. it does it sometimes 5 mins after i boot up.. the system is cold and the house is cold too.. no part of the laptop even feels warm.. both fans are full speed..

dont need no program, just change your power scheme to always on.. should do the trick mine keeps at a nice max speed of 1.83ghz

once your on AC jus change it back to maximal power save so the AMD can save power by adjusting it speed slower...... i have mine on the scheme portable/laptop so my cpu changes speed accordingly

if thats not the answer your looking for then sorry

and also one last thing, AMD is equipped with powernow. Powernow decreases/increases cpu speed depending on the demands of what you are doing...

if im wrong correct me someone

does centrino do this to? mine runs at 1.6ghz all the time. can i download a program to fix this?

i have no clue, im an AMD person myself but ill find out for you and post it here

right using the trusty search bit of this forum i found out that all centrino's should be equipped with intels speedstep technology...

speedstep technology dynamically decreases the clock speed in terms of the task at hand... also some stuff being said was that speedstep is lacking in features so on so forth blah blah and to download and use speedswitch instead as it offers more features...

again correct me if i am wrong people as i am a good old fashion noob

hope thats answered your question twoodcc

i know about powernow.. i want to know how to keep it at a constant speed .. i dont want powernow to kick in basically.

like i said basically change your power scheme to always on.. that should change and keep your CPU at full speed and constant with no decrease in speed using AC or battery

A centrino will clock down too. Mine is a 1.7Ghz P-M, but it clocks down to 600mhz when i'm not using a program which will need more juice. I use speed switch XP and I have had zero issues with it.
