build quality

OK, so i am thinking of buying a 3790 and i have a few ?'s

first.. i have only seen ONE sager in my life.. and it was RICKETY. It was a 17" heavy ass thing with relatively BAD build quality. not only was it flimsy feeling, but the plastic seemed way too thin.

My question is.. was this model specific.. how would you rate the build quality for sager machines.

Ibm level
Emachine leve
Dell inspiron Level

How is case flex.. wear.. heat, etc, etc..
Basically do you feel you are using something sturdy?

I am working on a 12" pwerbook all the time which is top notch for fit and feel.. the emachine i had seemed good for build quality.. albeit lower then my thinkpad and t20 (which my ex stole)

I use a t4o at work.. and an r51.. ibm really does make BULLET proof laptops.. but i just can't afford their prices at home.. and they really don't offer a good machine for gaming.

So tell me all about it.

I currently have an A31 and use T40 at work also. The reason IBM's are so as you say "bulletproof" is because they use APC plastic. Were as Dell and others do not, this is what makes them cheapy and more flexable.

I have just ordered a 9860 and believe it is a mix of aluminum and hopefully APC. No worries though it is hardly flexable at 13lbs.

I received my first 3790 order two weeks ago. The first one I received had a major screen problem, but it was rock solid feeling - built like a tank. I got a replacement laptop a few days later, but this one (i'm typing on it now) seems to be a little less solid. It creaks a bit when you pick it up, and the keyboard was a bit mushy. The first one didn't have any problems like that. I have to admit that i'ma perfectionist, and I can't stand having a laptop that creaks and groans like that. I have a 3 year old Toshiba Sattelite that creaks less.
I am considering sending this one back also. I may have to do some thinking on what manufacturer to go with. Don'tget me wrong, the 3790 is an excellent machine, but my particular laptop isn't as high quality as I was led to believe when reading these boards.

The thing is.. when you buy something.. spend months and months saving up the cash.. there isn't an actual *fault* but its flimsy.. the screen isn't as nice as you expected it to be.. the benchmarks just dont *add* up right.. well its hard to admit that. Its not bad enough to send it in.. but... your still dissapointed.

So the problem is, the only people who really give you the info are the people who had it smack bad, they get pissed and send it in. They may get a refund or a new comp, but there still bitter, and since there the people who tell you the machines faults, its not allways accurate ^^

Just my .02 on info gathering

Edit: I'm not beating on anyone here, just saying take everything with a grain o salt

I agree with that. I am 90% happy with my 3790, but I had to save up most of the money to pay for it. I just don't like to have nagging problems with a brand-new product. Performance wise the 3790 is kick-arse. I may end up ordering another Sager down the line after I send this one back.

Build quality on my 8790's solid. The screen wobbles a bit if you carry it around open (like I'm apt to do at work), but that's because the screen's so big and heavy The paint finish didn't like me very well, but that's seems to be limited to me. Other than that, no complaints on the build quality.
