Interesting 8890/5680 info

The owner of powernotebooks.com stated:

'The specs of the new models are still in flux, but we know that they will include the ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 PRO 3D Graphics Accelerator w/128MB DDR, 800MHz Front Side Bus Speed and Dual Channel 400MHz PC3200 DDR. The Sager NP8890 will be released (that means we will actually be shipping) in early August, and the Sager NP5680 will be following 3-4 weeks later.

The NP8890 will also have a Hardware RAID 0 and 1 solution.'

3-4 weeks later for the 5680?

that must be true because Adam said the 5680 would be released after the 8890. He didn't say when but this seems to agree.

I guess this just means I'll have more time to save money for one of these babies ;P

I would think that all orders from all sager resellers would be shipped about the same time.. I forget if powernotebooks is a sager resellers or prostar reseller but they probaly both will release at same time i would think or very close together..

Powernotebooks is a Sager reseller. Sager has better support than ProStar (from what I've heard); but take that with a grain of salt (I own a Sager).

Will Adam (and other resellers?) Be providing a configuator or taking a limited number of preorders for the 5680 early in August when the 8890 launches?

That is to say, will both products "launch" at the same time but with different delivery dates, or will they be launched seperately.

probably separate. It's happened before, just like this. It's probably easier to cram everything into the 8890 than the 5680, but that's just my theory on it.

They will be on most reseller websites the day Sager releases the pricing and options to the resellers. It's still up in the air if the 5680 will release with the 8890 or if it will follow behind it. Sager is a first come first served supplier for the most part it seems.

If they are deciding whether or not to launch both at the same time or have the 5680 follow, then that means there is still a possibility of the 5680 launching in early August. There are a few reasons why I think they should launch them at the same time. The information originally given said that both models would be released by the beginning of August. Releasing a model later than the beginning of August causes a loss in sales to college students. Additionally, if those who want a 5680 have to wait even longer, they won't be too happy.

The same thing happened with the 8887 and the 5670 though, if you remember. The 88xx series is generally more expensive than the 56xx series because it has a few extras so Sager may want to capatalize on that by offering it a little earlier. Just a thought... Or like denkc said this could be true

Probably more likely than a scheme to get extra money...
