A nice fellow over at Rage3d modded the 4.12 beta drivers to run on the mobility 9800 series of cards. These drivers have include all the fixes of the 4.11 driver and contains optimizations for HalfLife 2.

Pablo just re-uploaded the file and it should work fine now.

BTW, I just hit 3550 3dmarks!! Up almost 400 from the old Dell drivers.

Holy shiznit! Nice score man! What the hell did you do to your machine?? I have a 3.4 Prescott and am only scoring 3600 3dmarks using the fast mip mapping and performance settings under my ATI control panel. Mind you, I haven't done a fresh install since I got my machine though....

See... where most just focus on the video settings and such, I also concentrate on the windows core system as well... there is always something going on in the background and if you can sniff and disable many of these, you will get a performance bump.

disclaimer: (hee hee, i have always wanted to do this)

IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO TUNE DOWN TO MY LEVEL WITHOUT FULLY KNOWING EACH MODULE. YOU CAN UNKNOWINGLY DISABLE STUFF RELATED TO SECURITY, VIRUS, ETC. AS WELL AS YOUR HARWARE MYSTERIOUSLY NOT WORKING ANYMORE, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY...

Apply 1 setting at a time and test. This takes a LOT of time. Then set and test, set and test... Patience is key grasshopper... (dammit now I am losing it.. )

I also spend about 1-2 hours after installing windows applying my little "cocktail" to the system (reg settings, services, startup, indexing, sys restore, auto update, virtual mem, optimize). I have been using xp since RC1 and windoze since 1.0. Please dont ask me to start speaking Mac either.... Im fully bilingual. I would love to see them come out with 3D'05 for Mac tho'... would definately be interesting .

With 1 destroyed marriage and a lot of locking myself in my office for a few years, I learned how to manipulate Billy's software quite well, I have 20/10 vision, and I can see a single frame drop @ 100fps

I am going to get some arctic silver today and open this baby up and redo some of it so ill be on l8r with more insight.

What do you have your CPU overclocked to?

The longest I ran this machine with the preinstall was about 5 min to test and check that all the h/w was there...

Thats all fine and dandy for 3dm 2001, but 2005 is just about 100% GPU dependant. You'll get close to the same score on a 1.5GHz or 3.0GHz CPU, or with 12 processes running compared to 30 (all on same video card)

using these modded drivers I`ve noticed the 3d driver listed as 8.062. Last I checked the 256 memory fix was built into the 8.07 driver. Whats up with that?

Help ME! Just dida clean install of everyrthing and tried the Catalyst 4.12 Beta for Mobility 9800 and using 3DMARK 05 I only got a score of 2674!!! What am I doing wrong. I updated the Bios on my 9800 to the most current from the Dell download page.

2655 Using the officail ATI Driver

2672 with settings set for speed
Overclocked to 450/400 I get:

3384 with Omegas
3385 with these new ones.

However, my CS:Source score improved by like 10 fps.
hmm still using the old omegas and i pulled a 2660 with no fresh install of XP just Dell crap uninstalled. No oclock, just stock. Default 3dmark05 settings and default omega settings. Those of you who got 3k is it non oclocked or is the machine clocked higher than stock in any way? Sorry if my post makes no sense, I just moved a whole lot of stuff today. hehe

Give me a break. Disabling a few Windows services isn't going to increase performance that much. More than likely the program is being fooled into thinking it's running faster than it is. Provide some of your "tweaks" so we can see if they really do what you claim.
I have disabled a lot of things in xp that I dont use and will never use and as such my computer boots and responds very fast. I do not know about increased scores or what not when it comes to graphics though. It does make sense to see some increase in performance because the processor does not have to multiplex as much but then again i was reading somewhere that the 3dmark05 is or is not processor intensive I am not sure which..so while some perf gain can be gotten I doubt us regular users will be able to discern that much. I know I cant but I tweak for the fun of it...I mean right now my computer is fast enough so that I dont have to wait for it do finish doing something you know unless I am compiling or running Minix on bochs etc etc
post #20 of 30
I think I've tweaked it down to aobut 24 or 25 processes running in the background, but I'm not including those multiple instances of svchost.exe that are always taking up over 6,500 K of my memory each! Like suryad, I tweak for the fun of it, but I'm not quite skilled enough to start making tweaks in the registry. If anyone's got some ideas (especially in the registry) about gaining CPU cycles back, I'd love to hear it!
