Anyone catch the new GamePC re-review of thier original Dothan vs. AMD P4EE article? They've gone back and done another review to dispell any doubts about the Dothan's gaming performance.

Check it out:

wow, my 1.7 Dothan eats the AMD 64 3200+ alive. I wonder how it compares to Snorre's archaic and slow AMD 64 2800+

What results were you looking at? Clearly not the ones I was looking at.

There are 9 or so review pages, right? Not sure what you mean but almost all the benchmarks above show the 1.7 to be at least on par with the AMD 64 3200+ which is a more powerful cpu than the low voltage AMD in the Ferarri 3200.

Another DRAMA KING!!!!

I went to the site thinking I was going to see AMD getting smokkeeddd.... It is the same back and forth speed reviews for the past couple of months. No clear winner... maybe purchase on price?

Dance baby, dance:

I am referring to a particulat AMD - the AMD 64 3200+ and not the FX55. The 3200+ is amuch more potent cpu than the 2800+ yet the 1.7 Dothan scores at least as much in its worst benchmarks.
No drama king, just a happy Dothan owner who has had enough snorre-talk of how superior his amd 2800+ is in everything, especially gaming.

wow, that's awesome. can't wait til alviso hits with the improved feature set. on a desktop board that would be amazing. for half the price you get the same performance of a p4 with low power consumption and low heat.

My appologies... I will let snorre handle you...

Now I really cant wait for the Sonoma/Alviso that allows the 533 MHz FSB after looking at this small over clock from 400 to 440 MHz

Ah, it's OK
As for Snorre, he is probably thrashing his out-of-date Ferarri and pretty soon will be back in the market for a Dothan laptop
He still has hope though - in case he manages to OC his old 2800+ just below the point of frying it he might get it close enough to the power of a Dothan.

Dothan looks great! My Sager 8790 is a P4 processor -- it was the only one from them that had the 17" wide screen, which I love. But if I could upgrade to a Dothan from this P4, I'd do it!

So "eating something alive" is the same as "on par"? From what I saw, the Dothan was about equal with the 3200+. Nowhere NEAR eaiting it alive.
when you add the lower clock speed, lower temps and longer battery life "eating alive" is telling only part of the story. Plus, in most of the benchies the 1.7 scores above the 3200+.

While this test is impressive in its own regard, I have a hard time believing it. The other tests I have seen simply don't agree.

Does it really? As far as I can see the Athlon 64 3200+ won 3 out of 7 tests, while the Pentium-M 735 (1.7 GHz) won 4 tests and 3 of these by less than 1 fps. Hardly any clear winner I think.

What are you talking about? Even this review refered to the Pentium-M as an antiquated platform technology...

My Acer Ferrari 3200 with low-power Mobile Athlon 64 2800+ smokes your Asus M6BNe with Dothan 1.7GHz in games

Dream on Snorre. I know it is hard to admit you have made the wrong choice when you thought that by going with AMD 64 2800 you were getting more power while sacrificing battery life, smaller and lighter form factor, less heat. The truth is that you sacrificed all those things but didn't get anything in return for the 1.7 is comparable, perfromancewise not counting its other advantages, to a 3200+ what is left for the LV 2800+. Your Ferarri can't smoke an average 1.7 Dothan laptop what is left for the Asus - arguably one of the, if not the, fastest performer of all Dothan laptops. I know you love to compare benchmarks so check out what PCWorld says about the Asus (PolyWell) they tested - highest WorldBench5 score ever.
My advice to you is take a big note so that next time you shop for a laptop you don't commit the same mistake again. Sorry but the truth hurts, sometimes that is.

EDIT: As it has been said before: Think Dothan for laptops and AMD 64 for desktops. Think constructively and don't become a slave to brand names.

Well now, here's the benchmarks of my own Acer Ferrari 3200:

Can you beat all these numbers? Bring it on, cowboy!

Cant this Dothan/AMD thing be called in a truce?

Can't we all just shake hands and get along?
Someone's feelings are going to get hurt...

Surely, this is just another Intel vs AMD debate... and as always, the answer is indefinite.
For as long as technology continues to progress, each company will be at the top for a (short) period of time...

And benchmarks are nothing but things to give computer junkies some bragging rights... my goodness people, just be happy with your computers! If you want to battle it out, do it in a game...
