Hi,

Because of an intensive post time, one of my post was deleted. So, I will resume it in one thread and it will be clearer for every one, and better for every one.

So, on the mitac 8050, I have a few questions...

1- What is the max RAM that can be put in? (It says 1GB here)

2- Is it better to buy it at RJTech or at ABS? The price is lower at RJTech(143$), but when I chose 1GB of RAM, it's not specified if it's in one stick or two. Also, the optical drive is cheaper.

3- Does the price on RJTech is in US$?

4- Does the 1,7GHz CPU on RJTech is Dothan or Banias?

5- How much time does the battery can be used at full load?

6- What is the temperature of the CPU and of the GPU at full load?

7- How is thew screen of this laptop in comparaison to a CL56?

Thanks a lot, again sorry for the other post...

Thanks,
Blacko

1. 2gb
2. abs is selling it starting at 1499 for a limited time. don't know much about rjtech, but have heard good things.
3. /shrug
4. should be dothan
5. using speedswitch xp i get about 3 hours
6. /shrug
7. wxga 15.4" (mitac) vs sxga 15" (cl56)-i like the mitac screen over the cl56, less strain on the eyes for me, but it's a matter of personal preferance.

Ok, thanks...

If any body else can answer these questions(the one not answered), it would be great! Also, if you can confirm what greenlantern said go ahead...

Thanks,
Blacko

P.S. What is "/shrug"?

1- 2gb
2- I bought from rjtech. 1gb = 2x512 at rjtech. Maybe you can talk to Richard.I don't know if he can put one stick if you ask...
3- I bought on September and it was in US$. I don't think rjtech is selling notebooks on Moon yet...
4- I bought from them and it is a Dothan. Send an email to them just to make sure. I would buy only if it was a Dothan, and Richard confirmed that to me.
5- Never did the test. The only test I did was this one:

DVD - X-Men 2 - 1:56h

- Second to brightest screen level, 598Mhz all the time, Vantec Lapcool at 100% (usb powered), optical mouse (usb), wireless off, reading from the DVD drive, from 100% of battery down to 10%.

6- I think you can't measure the CPU temp on the Mitac 8050. HD is ~ 33-37 degrees C most of the time.
7- I've never seen the CL56 personally. But for the pictures drawmonster took some time ago, I can tell you that it's much, much better... also, the widescreen is very relaxing to the eyes, i think.

thanks a lot!

So you think this laptop is a good centrino one!
I might buy it!

Why can't you take the temp of the CPU on the mitac 8050?

Yes, I think it's not just a good Centrino notebook, but also a good general notebook as well. The only thing you should be aware is the 6-cell battery and that it's a fairly hot notebook, compared to cool P-M notebooks like the CL56. Everything else is excellent, imo. If I would buy a notebook now, I would still buy exactly this model.

Answering the question, probably it doesn't have any temperature probe connected...

ok, thanks...

When you say it's a hot laptop, how much??? I know you can't calculate the temp, but can you compare it to other laptop? Also, when you answered my question about bettery life, was it with a 6 cell battery? Because I email Richard and told me that the battery can last 2-3 hours...

Thans again,

I said hot as you using it on your lap without any problem at all. On the left side, under the notebook, there is the greatest cover (there are 4), which is the CPU. At the right edge of this cover is where it gets hotter, but still usable, you don't notice that much, since when you use on your lap, this spot is at + or - the middle of the notebook, between your legs. You won't notice. When you're gaming, however, it gets hot as you can't use it on your lap (how much people here play games with the nb on the lap anyway?).

And Richard told you the truth. It _can_ last _more_ than 3 hours (little more). But it won't last all that if you're playing a DVD from the optical drive with something taking power from the usb (vantec cooler).

Hi,

I have an other question, will i'll be able to get another battery for the mitac 8050 after my purchase, or if I want two batteries, I have to buy it now? Also, at RJTech, what is the 60GB HD at 7200 shipped with it? Is it an ata, or what model, what compagny?

Thanks again,
Blacko

Mine is the classic Hitachi Travelstar 7200 rpm (non-E) that lots of people here have. But I don't know if rjtech changed the drives they ship their notebooks with, since I bought mine. I don't need to tell you to contact them, right?

Model #: HTS726060M9AT00

About the battery, why do you want to buy a spare battery? if you plan to extend the unplugged life of it, it's ok. If you want to buy one just to have one when your primary battery fails, then you're wasting money. You know that batteries, even if not used, will lose some of its capacity, right?

You can always find a spare battery for it, unless... in which country you live? if it's US, don't worry.
