INtel Wireless nic crashes my AX7(4750)

First of all, I'm assuming that the 4750 has the same Intel wireless nic that my hypersonic AX7 has. When wireless functions are turned on the machine will eventually crash. If I go and transfer a large file over the lan it will crash within a minute. If I'm just browsing the web it'll usually happen after 15minutes.

Once I disable the wireless [Fn] F11 the system is perfectly stable. Hypersonic told me to install SP2 to fix the issue. I did and it didn't so I uninstalled that crappy windows update.

Any suggestions? If I can't get any help here I'm just gonna threaten Hypersonic to either give me a bluetooth card or i'm sending the laptop back. $3,200 is too much for a flaky system.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Well i think the majority of 4750 owners on these forums have the Gigabyte wireless card. I'm not sure but you might try finding some different drivers for the card. My thought process doesn't comprehend why having a wireless card on crashes a computer, but if i were you i would get on the phone with a tech support guy at hypersonic and talk with him until you have it fixed.

It appears this is an issue with all 4750 owners that have the Intel 802.11G card.

Can anyone who has a 4750 do some large files transfers over the wireless lan (not from a website) and report here any issues? I just want to confirm if any Intel wireless users or any other brands actually work.

At the moment, any large file transefers from a network share locks up my machine.

Thanks,

I agree with you. I just bought an NP4750 and am experiencing the same crashes with the wireless connection. This is unacceptable. I have requested an RMA and want my money back. If this thing isn't functioning correctly out of the box I don't want it.

Same problems here, my 4750 is rock solid with wireless turned off (Fn F11). Funny thing is that the box came with a yellow paper from Intel stating that the 2200BG should ONLY be used with Centrino notebooks. How can SAGER be so inadequate and send out Athlon notebooks with uncompatible hardware? I emailed/called PCT and Sager about this, but they remain very silent... perhaps due to Thanksgiving. I hope... think this is a very bad thing...

Same Issue but with black screen and blue stripe on right side

I finally got to talk to Sager...they did call me back - hurraay! They're sending me the Gigabyte wireless free of charge, which I will be replacing myself. I am confident that should solve the lockups...

I just thought I'd mention that I got a gigabyte wifi card and it fixed the crashes. In addition, the signal is constantly stronger and has a much longer range.

I believe the crashing issue on the intel card is due to the speedstep (or whatever amd calls it). I found that the card was stable when I ran at 800mhz, but when the higher clock rates kicked in it crashed.

Of course this is most likely a feature of the intel card and not an actual bug. What an opportunity to make your competitors product look like an unstable piece of crap.

I just bought the 4750 with the Intel 2200BG wireless card and I'm having the same problem. Crashes with a blue stripe running vertically down the right side of the screen.

I don't understand why they stopped using the Gigabyte card.

How hard is it to replace this card? Is it located under the hard drive?
Yes it's located under the hard drive, and replacing it yourself doesnt void the warranty.
So funny; I was talking to Sager tech support and I mentioned the fact that lots of people were experiencing the EXACT same problems as me, and Sager techsupport had to laugh; "How many units do you think we've sold using this config?" whereas I replied; - "How many?"
Sager techsupport: "...er... lots! "
Bottom line is I did some research and the Intel card just isn't compatible with the AMD chipset, but I think Sager refuse to admit their mistake, which is comprehensible from a corporate point of view. At least they are replacing the Intel free of charge, but the troubles I've had this far with Sager... I can't say I appreciate that.

Thanks for the info. In most other respects I really like this laptop. But I don't like the Sager company much because of this kind of crap. I wonder if they realize how big a support problem they are creating for themselves. I mean, this problem is trivially easy to reproduce and it seems to affect everyone with a 4750 with a 2200BG. And Intel seems to come right out and say that this card isn't designed for non-Intel (Centrino) systems.

But this is why I bought the laptop through powernotebooks.com. They act as a nice buffer between me and Sager. Hopefully, those guys can help me. I just want to exhange cards.

You can always uninstall powernow. That should restore stability while you wait for the gigabyte card. And yes, it's super easy to remove. Just be careful and never try to force anything if it doesn't wanna move.

I just replaced the intel with the gigabyte wireless but its not showing up in windows. Did I not connect it right? It seemed to me it fit only in one way... force installing the drivers doesnt work either...

*big sigh*....

I just took my Intel card out. Yes, it only fits one way. The little terminal connections for the antenna wire should be facing up. After you seat the card, make sure the little clips on the sides are secure. Then connect the antenna and that should be it.

If it doesn't show up in the device manager at all then they might have sent you a bad card. I wouldn't put it past them.

I talked to a guy at Sager today and he told me the problem will go away if I change my power options so the CPU doesn't change speeds. Well, duh. I would have bought a P4 and a bag of marshmallows if I wanted to leave the thing at full power all the time.

So he finally agreed to send me the Gigabyte card, but I have to send the Intel card back first. We'll see where this goes...

By the way, I noticed they didn't use any screws to secure the hard drive. They just plugged it in and put the cover on. I'm going to try to find some screws small enough to put into the brackets on the hard drive.

It's workin for me now, appeared I didn't push the Gigabyte wireless firmly enough - duh...
As for the power options - yes, they told me that too at first but c'mon what do they take us for, morons? I told Sager I would refuse to pay another dime on shipping because they sent me a defective unit, and I immediately reported that the first day I got it - so it was either;
- send back the whole unit and have Sager send me a replacement (Sager 10 dag policy)
- send just a replacement wireless card and have me install that myself
I proposed that to Sager and told them that obviously it would be better for them to just send me the wireless, and after I'd receive it I would send the intel back (and let Sager pay for that shipping as well). So now I will send the intel back.
But don't send back the intel first! Have them send you the Gigabyte first, you're entitled to it...you've paid enough for a very expensive laptop, you could alteast expect some service for that money...

Recently my IE has been either working or not. I can still download from bittorent and aim still works, but browsing is either very slow or i get that DNS error. I sometimes hit enter twice and I get away with it. Is this what you guys are talking about?

I have had this 4750 for couple months only this week its been happening.
Not really, this is about the 4750 locking up due to a 'replacement' Intel 2200bg card (substituting the Gigabyte that usually comes with it)

Aviator GX7

Hmm, I am having exact same problem with Aviator GX7 + Gigabyte GN-WIAG01. At some point I thought I had it fixed it by changing PCI latency settings, but the problem reappeared lately. Hypersonic's tech support is very predictable - I am supposed to reinstall my XP everytime there is a hardware problem. Anyway, I'm thinking about getting just any other miniPCI wifi card. It looks like it shouldn't be from Intel though.
have you tried the latest driver?

http://www.giga-byte.com/Communicati..._GN-WIAG01.htm

it mostly cured the lockups on my D470K Pro-Star Laptop...

I did socket a Broadcom based Compaq wifi card which seemed to work a little better than the Atheros based Gigabyte card... my problem is that I need a card which works in both XP and Linux and there's next to no Broadcom support in Linux.

I just ordered a 4750. Is Sager gonna send me mine with the Intel card, or did they get their $h1t in order yet?
