How many people actually have problems?

I am just wondering how many people actually have problems with their Sentia's. Is it like 1% of the people actually do and those are the only people who ever post on these forums, making it seem like everyone is having problems? Thanks

I love my sentia, but have hhad some problems you dont expect to have with a 2000+ dollar system, the good thing is they are good about fixing whatever it is needs to be fixed, and when its runnin great I love it.

Well I started posting here before I got my Sentia. But now place me in the "Having Problems" category. I had mine for two weeks and had to send it back to AW for depot service yesterday. It kept freezing despite reinstall of OS. They think its a heat problem.

I was also concerned about the frequent postings of problems but figured like most it was just the vocal minority and that mine would be fine. I guess I may have been wrong.

Major problems here. I think we're seeing too many people complaining for what is supposed to be a top-of-the-line system. I think that Alienware is just a cool design concept with a Mickey Mouse business behind it.

At least you guys are being honest and not sugar-coating your replies in case big brother is watching.

iambox, you waited over a month to receive your 12" Sentia right? Now that it had to go back to the depot doesn't it take AW a month or two to repair it?

I thought on-site warranty was an option......???

Don't you guys think it could just be the 10 people out of 10000 having problems and those people are the ones posting all the time? I don't know what to think because it is unlikely that everyone who gets a Sentia has problems.

Beyond the particular problems with my machine, in my dealings with Alienware, the overall culture of the company has left me underwhelmed. I take my own system's problems, the lackluster build time and support, and the volume of complaints on this board, and together they point to a bad company and a bad product.

Im thinking about purchasing a Sentia in the early part of December, and I am just having a hard time believing Alienware is as bad of a company as many of you say it is. How could they stay in business if all of their laptops have the plethora of problems that most of you people are saying they have. It seems to me that the Better Business Bureau would be on Alienware's back if this were the case. In reading these forums, I am just getting the impression that the only people who ever post on here are the 1% of people who actually have problems, maybe I am just naive and want to think Alienware is a good company. Who knows.
Can some people who have had 0 problems with their laptops actually speak up, because I think we are just getting biased opinions right now.

Wolfx,

Do as you wish buy or not buy. I honestly wish I was among those happy purchasers, however I was not. It's a beautiful machine. But I seriously doubt in the capabilities of their manufacturing process to produce consistantly good products. The phone support is very good. The customer service is not as helpful, in fact just the opposite. If you make noise the powers that make decisions seem to pay you a reasonable alternative. Consider if your laptop died and had to have a display or motherboard replaced you would be out of a laptop for a minimum of 3 weeks. That's not so helpful in my book. For those who have a running system I'm sure they are quite happy. The initial poll shows 25% dissatisfaction. But I'm sure those numbers will be skewed somewhat. If however there is a 25% dissatisfaction factor then it's "caviat emptor". My only suggestion is buy with a credit card that might give you enough leverage to cause customer service to help in case you do have a problem. should you choose to buy one from AW.

I waited two months for mine, but that was partly due to 3 hurricanes, and me adding a three year warranty, and then adding the DVD burner when it became available (the burners were late to get to AW by 2 weeks).

I was told that the On-Site warranty only applied when they actually knew what the problem was such as bad hard drive or broken keyboard. They think my problem is heat related but not sure.

I think I will probably go with a Dell the next time. I really, really wanted to like AW, but so far I have not been impressed.

I was told 12 days for depot service, btw.

Wolfx,

In my case I am just telling what happened to me. I was posting to this board before I got mine delivered and thought (hoped) as you did that it was just the vocal minority complaining. Now, having mine for just two weeks and having to send it in to depot I don't know what to think.

The new 12" Sentia is a relatively new model so perhaps they are having some engineering issues (or Uniwill is) or quality issues.

Im just (another) big brother stopping in to keep an eye on device manager.
if no one has guessed yet, he isnt an Alienware owner and seems to like to magnify other peoples complaints. which has lead to complaints.

I've noticed that to, I wonder why he doesn't do this in the Dell forums (maybe he does but I dont go there much, lol)

I am a satisfied Sentia owner. Not problems out of the box at all. I guess all the complaining is coming from couple of people who want to bash Alienware whenever they get a chance. Remember, you will probably hear from people who have problems, whether they caused it or not (i.e. adding memory, etc.), rather than the ones who are happy. Check the number of bash posts by the vocal few and you will see it is the same ones over and over and over and over (you get the point).

Also, check out Resellerratings.com and you will see that Alienware has one of the top ratings of ANY manufacturer. It isn't padding numbers over there, but rather people who give their rating and move on. Some of us don't have the time to keep a vendetta to make a point.

Hope this POV helps from the "few" happy AW owners.

Do you have the 12" or the original? Just trying to see if the 12" is more prone to problems.
