Ever Quest II - Page 2

I haven't played EQ2 at all, but I can tell you your computer would chew through WoW. Mine is playing it at top settings and it is SO BEAUTIFUL. It's really not that demanding of a game, but the graphics are just pretty.

i've been playing alow of eq2 on my sager 8790 which has 1gig ram, 2.0 centrino and a mobiluty 9700 128. It runs decent at defut settings. Head into a big city and theres a major drop. All in all runs fine. BTW EQ2 OWNS.

LOL... good to know. I am really going to be considering either WoW or EQ2... you think either one will have a demo?

Man I would be careful with the EQ2. I've been playing EQ1 going on my 6th year now. What a curse it is to be locked into EQ. You just cant stop playing, its terrible like that. Time simply passes you by. I've been trying to stop playing my necro for years now. Time Flagged GoD flagged flag flagged. Always some flag or something to keep you locked in. I've been trying to quit for months now but I keep paying even though I dont play. Thankfully I have a few RL friends who like the added power of the necromancer and in return they get AA's for me and keep me well equiped.

Play EQ2? I think not my friend. Don't do it. In fact convince me to sell you my uber every spell having level 70 Dark Elf Epicified 1.5 Necromancer on Prexus server, so that I may finally be free of this forsaken curse!

I played FFXI for a year and became fed up with it so I recently downloaded the WOW Beta and bought EQ2. Let me say this that both games are impressive in their own ways.

WOW is not a very demanding game. Look at my sig and you will see I only have an 9700 pro graphics card. I can max everysingle setting out and play silky smooth. Graphics design and colors are beautiful but quality(polygon count and detail) is a little aged. I must say that the fun factor is definatley here with WOW. The game is very reminicent of the Diablo II days(I loved that game!!!) The game draws you into it and you really enjoy doing the quests. As for customization, character and armorwise, the game is a little lacking. The game is extremely easy to learn and will probably be a big hit with younger audiences.

EQ2 is unbelievable!!. I bought this totally blind having never played a SOE game before. I must say this game has blown my socks off!! The graphics are beautiful and blow away any other MMORPG Ive seen. I can play with the graphics balanced out which is not bad for a 9700 pro. As for bugs there were problems the first 3 days but now the game is great with no instability! This game is very quest oriented. You get tons of exp and items for doing quests and they are very worth your while. I have become engulfed with this game and cannot stop playing it. The user interface is one of the best I've ever seen(a little learning curve though) SOE really put some thought into this. Your equipment grows with you as you level(meaning items obtain more power and abilities as you level) meaning your not running back to town to buy new armor every level. Customization is unbelievable, I mean I have not even begun to see another char that resembles mine. This game makes you really feel a part of the world and not some external person just playing.
I could rant on for pages about this game. You can solo or group, your choice and the game even tells you which monsters can be soloed just by hovering your mouse over them (no guessing!!).

Overall both are great games and my personal scores for each:
WOW: 8.5
EQ2: 9

I chose to stay with EQ2 and will have no regrets. For some reason in the back of my mind I feel WOW will have a younger more childish community and I cant get past some of the things in EQ2. Lots of posts bash EQ2 and this is sad because most of these people bashing the game have no base for doing so. They are people in favor of WOW and they think by bashing EQ2 they will sway people to buy WOW.

Both are great games!!!!

That s great, thanks for that cknobman... I am thinking about leaning more towards EQ2. I, as you, got the same impression that WoW will be trageted more for the younger audiences rather than EQ2... HOWEVER, the fact that WoW will run smoother on my machine than EQ2 might make WoW a better choice for me... If anyone has similar configs to mine, and is playing EQ2, please post a screen shot or something...

Your system will run it.. I also play EQ2 and everything the other guy told you is true. It is amazing.. Im running on a p4 2.6 512ram nvidia 6800 128mb none ultra/gt card. However many people running with the older ati cards are running the game smoother..there seems to be an issue with the new nvidia and ati cards..yet people with a ati 9800 pro 128mb run it fine. Also there are a few sager 5690 owners that are running with with no trouble.. so I think you'll be just fine..

ok then... I might just have to join the journey and go buy myself EQ 2... unless someone here is fed up and wants to sell me their used version?
Used version won't do you any good. You'd be able to install it on your machine but not create an account. Unless someone sells you their actual account, but it's probably better just to start your own.

AHHHH... got it. I am still a little worried that my machine will not be able to handle it as well as I would like but I might just try it.
You shouldn't be, I've played EQ2 and your computer should not have a problem. Don't make your choice on how it will run because you won't see much of a difference between the game because of your computer. So pick the game you want to play more.

Another thing I would like to point out is that you might mistake choppiness for lag. In certain zones of EQ such as the bazaar, it will feel like a choppy slideshow due to the amount of people in the zone. It just gets congested.
Same with WoW. It's in beta still, so laggier than it will be after release because of the stress testing, but I'll run smooth as can be for a while and then all of a sudden head into a busier area and it gets a bit choppy. Comes with the territory of online games.

Just bought Eq 2 and it runs great on my old desktop no problems at all. I'm on one of the less populated servers so not so much lag. Should work great on my new laptop once i get it as the stats on it are better then desktop. Well except for the graphics card got 256m 5900fx ultra in desktop.

Ok... so choppiness in games doesn't necessarily mean that my computer is slow?
Just with online games. Because the speed of the game doesn't *just* depend on the speed of your computer - it depends on the speed of the servers. If ten bazillion people log into the server all at once ... lag, no matter how rockin' your system.

AHHHH... very good... so the question is whether or not I am willing to pay the rediculous $15 a month... lol...
Well the monthly fee all depends on how ya look at it heck cost more then 15$ to take your best girl to the movies and that only entertains for a couple hours. Well maybe longer depending on what happens after but i digress. With a single player game you get at most 30 hours of game play with an online game it never ends well unless you just get bored with it. Still what your paying for is the server maintance and ussally monthly updates that add content and stability upgrades. Some folks spend as much as 30 to 40 hours a week in game playing of course that is a little extreame but 20 hours is not unussal. So your paying 15$ for 80 hours of gaming fun a month not bad in my book if you like the rpg type games that is.

Yeah, you make a very valid point... I am married though... but I get the point. I might actually due that. Are there any area 51m owners out there playing EQ2? What specs and settings you running EQ2 at so its smooth without choppiness?
Turmoil I don't see why you are so worried about your computer running this game. Your specs are better than most other people playing games right now and they are running it fine. You just got a brand new AW, don't underestimate her.
