HP ze4560us shuts off

Thread Starter
After reading several posts, I think I am sure what's wrong with my NB. It started acting slow and "no operating system found" for a week. When it finally did load Win XP, after taking 5 minutes, it was very very slow. I shut it off one night and never saw Windows again. The recovery discs wont work because the computer shuts off. No warning, not message, no beep, nothing. The fan is always running on high speed. Here's what I've done:
Replaced hard drive, swapped memory, put silicone on the heatsink. I feel pretty safe assuming it shuts off due to overheating. I am going to recoat with Arctic Silver next week (Fry's was out of stock) and see what happens. The longer it sits turned off, the longer it goes without shutting off.
My system is: AMD 2500+ w/ 2x512MB PC2700. I am not a gamer, just a Photoshopper. I don't have a problem repairing the MB if I could get parts. I am comfy doing it--especially since I could put a nice down pymt on an Alienware for what it would cost for someone else to fix it. Just one more year for this notebook is all I ask.
I have had bad luck with this notebook. Power cord is jacked, memory failed, and now this---warranty expired 2 weeks ago.
Thanks for any input. Is my processor damaged, or does it shut itself off to prevent damage?

First of all if you had talked to a laptop technician they would have told you putting compound on the CPU or CPUs heat sink would be a bad idea.

Secondly I would bet that maybe there is a problem with the BIOS or maybe a bad MB or CPU...

I would also recommend you not try to repair the MB because I have seen them baby’s catch fire and explode after you mess with the CPU or MB...

I also would not risk it if it’s an HP notebook.

What you can do is HP has a exchange program for older used notebooks (don’t know if they still have it but when I was in the loop they did).

HP will also let you slide normally a few weeks past the warranty... Epically if you didn’t register the notebook for a few weeks after you got it.

I’ve done it before… I had an old HP notebook that had a screen that stopped working… told them it was only 20 something days past the warranty date and they got me a new one out ASAP

anyways any questions e-mail me @ dwel@direcway.com

and cite this message... Copy and paste it or give me the link.. and i will help you some more
