No software disks with new Sony Vaio K33??

I just got a new Sony Vaio K33 from Best Buy that runs Windows XP Home and when I opened the box there was absolutely no OS disks or any other software disks. I called Best Buy back and asked them if the disks were missing and they told me that there are no disks being shipped anymore for the last couple of years. I asked him how I was supposed to reformat or reinstall Windows and he said that I should press F10 at startup and reboot through safe mode or I could burn the disks off of the hard drive.
--How do I do either one? I would like to have a disk of Win XP for reformatting/reinstalling but don't know where I would find it in full to burn off of the hard drive.

You should have the recovery disk set and the drivers disk.
I would ring them back and demand this if not ask for a full refund and by it direct from Sony...

Think theyre trying to stop the swap of recover disks and copyright issues on these puppys.. I wonder how long it will take before the BIOS has to match the software specifically to run.. (Only good for the serial and machine with a matching BIOS)..

i can't imagine what they're trying to do, other than annoy their customers. if their only concern was "copyright issues," they would at least still have the curtesy to publish drivers on their website. but they don't do that. if you want a driver disk, you need to either make a 10-disc recovery set, or pay them $15 and wait for the dvd to arrive in the mail. it's totally appalling.

You have no idea. My dad and I bought our first laptop from Best Buy. It was a Toshiba Satellite 1905-S277. We looked and looked and finally decided on the Toshiba. Well, when we told the guy we would take it, he said they had none. So we asked about an HP with equal specs; none of those either. We went through about 5 notebooks that we liked and the guy said they had none of them. This was ironic as there was supposed to be a large "sale" that day. We finally just started to walk out, when we ran into the manager. We asked him why they had no laptops, and he promptly showed us about 100 machines piled to the ceiling at the top of one of the shelves. Then the salesperson said they were for shipping out. We finally managed to purchase our Toshiba, after about a half an hour of looking, and about 3 hours of thinking "wtf" and arguing and telling the sales guy that we DID NOT want the service plan for the laptop. We never went back. We bought our new Compaq from CompUSA, took less than an hour in total.
