New Sony CLIE PDA

Sony is going to be releasing a new CLIE PDA in early September or so. It's named the UX50 and has some nice features on it . Built in 802.11b , 300 mhz processor, reduced size, and a nice sleek look.

Although the positive seems to end there as this thing carries a huge 700 dollar price tag.

Check Sony's site for more info. It is on the first page.

Ya, its also $699! I'd rather buy the Sony NZ90 because it has everything and a little bit more!

Ok I find the dimensions a little funny.

• Dimensions
Approx. 4 1/8 x 3 ½ x 23/32
(projecting parts not included)

Is it 23/32 with it closed or open

Plus, it's a Sony and that means: CHEAP AS SNOT.

I'll give you just 2 weeks after the warranty (which is probably only 1 year at most) until something breaks (like the hinge, or the screen).

I've been burned 3 too many times by Sony to ever consider ANY of their products ever again... except maybe their top-end audio/video stuff... nah, I still turned them down...

Just my opionion (and expericence) folkes,

The only problems I see with the NZ90 is that it seems alot larger then the UX50 and doesn't have 802.11b integrated. This may not even be an issue for alot of users since the integrated 2.0 megapixel camera probably overweighs the negatives. THe smaller clamshell design seems kind of cool also.

I'm looking at maybe the high end hp 5550 model ? Does anyone own one or recommend a certain PDA over the other?

Don't get me wrong, the style of the UX50 is nice. It's just that they don't have anything that would really work for me. Yes, the NZ90 is big. Wireless can be had with an add-on card. Problem is that you can't use any out stuff, but you have to pay for Sony accessories.

As for the 5550, it is a pocket pc and that is all I can say. I think Palm is in the lead right now when it comes to slickness-of-devices factor. In medical school, we are told to only buy Palm devices since 99.9% of the useless software is for Palm only! Pocket PC has no permiation in the medical field. I'm surprised that Microsoft is not pushing harder for developers to make something since almost each medical student has to buy one and then they are usually going to be hooked for like on a PDA.

Another question. Why would you choose the NZ90? Is it mostly because of the larger megapixel camera?

Well, yes the better screen res of the camera is a big help. Also the NZ90 screen is very very nice. Plus, you can pick up an NZ90 for less than $650 these days.

that's still a lot, only $50 difference from the UX50, i would say if you're getting a palm based PDA and you don't need the digital camera, then you should get the Palm Tungsten C, it has basically the same specs as the PPCs, which includes built in wi-fi, and it's at a decent price.

I don't mean to keep beating a dead horse, but I compared the NZ90 to the UX50 and they have the same resolution screens. The UX50 is 480 x 320 pixels where the NZ90 is 320x 480 pixels? These are the same resolutions right just reversed lines of viewing? I'm having a hard time choosing a PDA . I like the styling of the Sony's but don't want to waste my money solely on paying for stylish things.
