8887 and OpenGL on the LCD

I've always had niggling driver issues with my 8887 and I finally tracked down the issue.

When I try to run any OpenGL Fullscreen app on my laptop's LCD monitor, it goes to all white and starts to fade to blue before the computer restarts. However, if I hookup any kind of external monitor and then switch output only to that monitor, then everything is fine. However, since I want my laptop to be mobile, carrying around an extra monitor with me at all times is not a great solution.

Any ideas? Thanks,

This is a tough one. First, is it still under any kind of extended warranty?

Likely, though, the warranty company will point to driver issues. What full-screen OpenGL app does this happen with? I've not noticed it on my 8887 (which is why I think it'd be a warranty issue).

Since the video card is integrated into the motherboard, you cannot repair/replace just the video, it's all or none (unfortunately).

I do not recall seeing this issue before, and since it's an 8887 (i.e. over a year old) has this ALWAYS occurred, or is this a recent used-purchase that you just now noticed?

First off, thanks for the reply

This has always happened as far as I know, and no warrenty (bought it new July 2003, ran great so saw no need for warranty). I had issues on and off with some applications.games until I played around, but it wasn't until I recently started playing City of Heroes that this happens. TO double-check that it was OpenGL, I double checked and also ran Vulpine GLMark and Half-life under OpenGL, same issues.

It isn't too big a deal thankfully, as I keep an extra monitor next to my laptop. Just means that I'm not running City of Heroes away from a spare monitor anytime soon.

Thanks,

Off Topic: I am currently addicted to CoH! You can find me on Infinity playing "Ramblin Roy" or "FyreBlast" (among others). Usually, I'll play as Roy (L36 FireTank).

Haven't loaded COH on my 8887, but might just do that soon and check it out.
