Controlling DVD player with supplied remote on 8887

What do you need to do to control a DVD with the supplied remote control? I cannot get it working. I've tried it with WinDVD. Is there another DVD player software I need?

Thanks,
Brian

I believe this was asked before long ago; seems to me the solution was to install the TV software and the remote would then be "activated" beyond the power button.

I could be wrong, but I am too lazy to search the forums for the precise answer... I'm fairly certain it's the tv software...

The remote works but not with the DVD. It works fine with the tv software and it works as a mouse. I want to be able to pause/play/rewind etc a DVD when it is playing. I searched the forum and the question has been asked before but never answered. I can't believe everybody has these DVD players and have never been able to get the remote working.

AH! I misunderstood, then. I don't even use my remote (or TV Tuner) or even DVD, so I cannot be much more help than I already haven't been.

It would seem to me that there should be some key-assigning or macro-type thing either in the DVD software, the OS, or the remote's utility that could do this.

if you do happen to find out how to do it via the remote macros or such, let me know. I wanna run my winamp over my remote :P

there is infrared generic remote software that i have used with my sb live remote and applications. you just need to look for the software that controls the infrared port and will take commands from the remote. then you can assign keys on the remote to do certain functions like change volume, press z,x,c,v for winamp controls. try www.download.com.

has anyone tried this program: uICE
(Universal Infrared Control Engine)

I would try it but I don't have my Sager yet. What all can you do with a program like this?

Easy Answer

OK here is the lowdown...TV Studio SUCKS...The remote control SUCKS. The S/PDIF will not work (5.1 Dolby digital) if you are not using the stupid tv studio. So if you use a third party software package like WinDVR you will be stuck with mono only audio. That blows cause WinDVR is nice to use. Oh yea I promised you a solution didnt I? Ok here it is...Wireless mouse. Spend the extra cash and get one with macro buttons on it if you like but thats my $0.02

Not sure where you're coming from, but I use S/PDIF constantly and I've never installed the TV stuff on my computer.

I have a 4.1 setup that works just great! Make sure your problems are not just a loose nut behind your keyboard...

Youhave my attention...how do you record with the s/pdif if the tv studio crap isnt installed and running?? I've heard from several sources that the s/pdif will only work while the tv studio software is running. This is one of those situations that I hope I'm wrong. So... If you can shed some light on this please do. I'm sticking to my guns about the tv stuidio software sucking though
Thanks!

Record with the S/PDIF? If you are recording, then you mean the line-in as there is no S/PDIF in... ( The sucky TV Studio software *is* required to use the line-in when the TV Tuner is installed )

Otherwise, it is only necessary to properly enable the S/PDIF output in the bios and the OS in order to use the DD AC3...

Side note: uICE works with the 8886, and should with the 8887 as well. You can do virtually anything with uICE as it is a programmable interface. Also, although you can only get DD AC3 as output from DVDs, if you use the Realtek audio drivers and set up your game software correctly ( audio software only D3D ) you can get software HTRF encoding output to the S/PDIF ( i.e. surround sound ).
