I tried this on my 8790 and it works just as well as the laptop cooler - with the cooler, it works even better. They can be "popped off" without too much trouble if you don't like them.
Ahh..thanks for the suggestions G.. I will look into that...I want everything all ready for me to play with when it gets here

Syn,

grats on the new lappy but why waste it on eq2? ;-)

same old crap as EQ1, i haven't had anyone explain to me why it's better, updated graphics? new start?

This is coming from a 65 200AA Time flagged barb shaman from ayonae ;-) (never got the expansion to get lvl 70 as I was already retired)

Bahh EQ2 is way different then EQ1, they changed everything except the character classes and races. If only they had re-done EQ1's graphics... that would be a game.

This is coming from a 65 250AA Time flagged HElf Enchanter(Quit because graphics hurt my head)... MGB KEI anyone?(So this is what it's like to "Hi-jack" a thread )

What I hate about online RPGs:

"Hey, that's really cool! Where'd you learn that dance?"

"Bought it at the disco"

"Awesome, seen The Incredibles last night, it was gr8!"

"Cool..."

"Yepyepyep...how 'bout we try leveling up a bit, bash some orcs."

"Sure, is Sam0912 on? Maybe he'd like to join us..."

"Dunno..by the way, I think we're supposed to defend some city or something from the Southlanders."

"K, cool, know where?"

"Nope"

"Okay, lets find someone and ask"

...

I'd just rather do something else.

Edit: Still jealous though, awesome comp Syn!

Heh I went from NWN..the old vga dos goldbox type game that was on aol til the axed it in 97 to UO..from UO to EQ...at the time..EQ had the best graphics around for a online game..but I couldn't honestly say it was as fun as the first two games I played. EQ1 was to much damn work..felt like a freaking job.. and the grind was boring. Now EQ2.. I really thought it was going to be the same game but so far.. (bare in mind im only level 13 bruiser headed for monkton heh) even the noob zones are fun.. the tradeskills.. which I was ALWAYS to lazy to do in ANY game are quite fun in this one.. And quests..are plentiful.. I get bored of killing I waste a little time doing quick little quests for money and exp.. I get bored of questing I go work on a few tradeskills ..its been really really fun and nothing like EQ1 so far... I've actually been taking my time to enjoy the game instead rushing out to get to level 50 before anyone else... if you take the time to enjoy it, its a really good game.. No more sitting for 15 minutes to mediate..no more waiting 20 minutes for a boat only to find out its broken. They've takened all the things people complained about in the first game and fixed it in this one. Atleast that has been my experience with it.. And the graphics being breathtaking only adds more candy to a fairly good game.

I've had people ask me why Im not waiting for the ATI card. Basically because the Nvidia card fits my current needs, its still the best card in a laptop..though ATI will probably soon claim that..but its still miles away from anything else that is out.. and because if I wait for ATI another announcement will happen and it would be back to the waiting game.. i've been waiting since july when I sent my 5690 back and people thought I was nuts then For me the waiting has paid off and with the ability to upgrade whenever a 16 piper or another card with a far bigger increase in performance then the ATI card has... I don't feel the need to keep waiting. I'll just upgrade when the time comes and enjoy what the Nvidia can do now..

And im sick and tired of sitting at my desk since I sold off my laptop to help pay for this one hehe

There's always something a little better coming out every month with computers. The trick is to make your upgrade when big changes come along. The 9860 with the 6800 is a big performance increase over the last generation of AGP laptops. However waiting another month or two for the next little pci-e video card to come out will not provide a significant performance boost.

Oh noes! I can't resist the Governator!

*examines his wallet*

But I'm roughly $1800 CAD short. It seems that my wallet can.

My 9860 arrived yesterday, leaving me pretty damn tired today after playing with it for a good part of the night! Haven't had a chance to play with everything yet, but loaded up World of Warcraft and pumped up all the settings... looked absolutely beautiful. Probably going to pick up HL2 this evening and load that baby up. Tested out the TV tuner, and the Audio DJ, both work great. The sound system on this guy is really quite incredible. No dead pixels that I've noticed, so lets hope you have the same luck Syn.. I'm sure you will!

Overall its great so far, my biggest complaints being how hot the wrist area gets (I'll have to try out that cooling method someone mentioned earlier), and the amount the hard drives seem to access (2x 5400 rpm SATA 80 gigs, Raid 0), even when the machine is sitting idle. I didn't really notice that latter issue last night, but did this morning when it was a bit quieter in my apartment. Minor issues though, especially if I can find a good cooling solution. Oh, and this thing is a monster.. really.. I knew it was going to be big, looking at the screenies and dimensions, but I guess it didn't really sink in until I pulled it out of the box. Definitely had to make some room on my desk for it...

Congratulations Syn!!

I just used a cookie sheet to place this on my lap and it worked fine 'cept for my knees were aching after about 15 minutes cuz this thing is HEAVY!

I am sending my 9860 back today, got me a lemon it seems and Sager's troubleshooting wouldn't help. Rather than send it in to get fixed I'm gonna sit for a bit until I'm comfortable in ordering another one (don't want to go through that troubleshooting crap again). Seems like everyone else's 9860 is working superbly.

I will say that when this thing wasn't crashing it was the awesomest computer I've ever worked on. Yes, the palm rests get warm, but they do on all laptops pretty much and the noise isn't bad at all.

EQ2 is beautiful on this thing. WoW will be too. Hope my next one doesn't gimme blue screens

That looks like a fine, fine machine. Please allow me some laptop envy for a moment. I've ordered my 3790 and am waiting for it to ship now. I really liked some of the bigger, better laptops...but while I've not minded lugging around my 10 pound Toshiba the last couple of years, the 17-inch widescreens are just a little too big for me to carry around on planes all the time.

I'm going to live vicariously through you folks with these 9860s when more reviews come down.
