Carrying Case for 4760

I've just purchased a 4760 online and would like to know if anybody has any suggestions on which case to purchase for this whopper of a machine. It comes with a free carry case but I'm sure it's low quality. Any suggestions?

I use a case by Tom Bihn the monolith inside the brain bag. The monolith provides the bulk of the protection. I'm not sure if it would be big enough.

Targus

if you're looking for a backpack style, take a look at the Targus Deluxe..i think it sells for 80 on PCtorque..i've heard many a good things about this backpack..it will also hold a lot more than just the laptop

I don't think the targus deluxe is big enough for a 17 inch notebook. You could check the apple web site and see which case they offer for their 17inch notebooks.

I have both the targus deluxe backpack (tsb312 silver/black) and the 4670. It has a snug fit, but nevertheless it fits. It's a roomy and versatile bag that compliments the 4670 well.

Several companies made custom-backpack style cases for Apple's 17" Powerbook. They range in price, but I am sure they would work great for the 4760.

Thanks for the Powerbook bag choices. The Edgewater looks like it is just the ticket. Don't like the gray, though. Blue looks about right when contrasted against the ubiquitous balck model.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've looked online since my original post and found booqbags.com. They have a bag called FoleeMessenger17 which is a nice design although expensive at $179. The compartment size is 15.5"x12.0"x1.75".

I highly recommend a case that's made by London Fog.

I bought mine at CompUSA for $99. As you can see from the item description, this case has a padded removable inner sleeve that fits the 4760 like a glove. The case has plenty of pockets and the handles feel ver comfortable. It looks great, too. Hope this helps.

The laptop case I mentioned in the previous post is available for $10 less at Fry's. www.outpost.com

The 17" Apple Powerbook is 15.4"x10.2"x1".

The 4760 is 15.5"x10.8"x1.7".

Bags designed for a 17" Powerbook may not hold a computer 70% thicker. If the protection for the laptop is rigid, the 0.4" deeper may be a problem, too.

TUMI Messenger Bag

I bought this TUMI bag for my 4760. It is a little bit pricier(~180$) but it is a very solid bag. The computer sleeve fits the 4760 like a glove (it has zippers on the side that increases the width) although it states on the site that the max is 14.5. TUMI Messenger Bag
It provides very solid, not perfect, protection for the computer. It already had a good test when the sales lady accidentally knocked it off the counter (computer inside!!) when I was trying it out (approx. 4 feet drop). No damage whatsoever.
The only downside is that there is scant protection in the upper corners. You can kind of see inside when you have the bag closed because it is a messenger bag (see link). Tumi also has a nice tracer program for all their bags that you can register for.

Timbuk2 makes a large messenger bag that might work. It would depend on the protection you wanted. From the ones I've seen you would need a sleeve for better protection.
