cordless mice and laptops

Thread Starter
i'm looking to buy a cordless mouse that will work with my laptop. Currently I've chosen the Logitech mx 700, although I hear it may not be the best choice for a laptop.

Does anyone have any recommendations/experience that can help me.

Thanks

Well, I don't have one in particular that I would recommend... I just thought I'd mention you should look out for things like size and power consumption (if that is important to you) when looking at it for a laptop...

I've always like mini-mice such as the expensive one from Atek (www.atek.com) but for cordless I usually prefer logitech. I'm using one right now, but actually I find that sometimes it goes haywire and the cursor jumps all over the screen.

I bet you've already found this page, but in case you haven't, this is a link of all of Logitech's mice (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?pa...9&languageid=1) Those are nice if you're not looking for a mini-sized mouse.

Although I am curious as to why you want a cordless mouse for your laptop, as I would assume cordless means you have space.

Whatever the case, I'm sure this will fit both mini and cordless:

Im using the wireless optical mouse blue from microsoft with my 8886, i would have opted for the wireless intellimouse, but this one is doing a great job and cost half the prize of the explorer.

Re: Zachquiel

I've found the two...

Mouse Blue (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/womb_info.asp)

and

Intellimouse
(http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/wie_info.asp)

looks like all of these things cost too much anyway. They both look a little bit bulky, but I don't know what the usage of the mouse will be. Looks like the intellimouse is for people with big hands. So is the Xbox controller, strangely. Hrm...

I don't see any purpose in paying 20 bucks for like...2-4 extra buttons. Good choice.

I dunno. I can't stand it going back to an older mouse on someone else's computer after having mapped back and forward in IE to the extra buttons on my (corded) optical Intellimouse Explorer.

Stick with the MX700 it is still the best cordless mouse on the market and outperforms the new cordless BT mouse from microsoft.

The Mx700 gives you the same accuracy as a wired USB mouse.

I have a friend with the MX700, and it works well. Don't notice any mouse lag, even in FPS's.

A note on Microsoft. People can say whatever they want about the company's software, but they are second to none when it comes to service on their hardware. I had my Intellimouse break on me. I generally don't bother with warranties, so I just went back to an older mouse that was laying around. I found out a month later that there was a known issue with the mouse, and that Microsoft was sending anyone who asked for one a replacement with no need to send in the original (just a reciept or a photocopy of the bottom of the mouse). Got mine in two days (I live 30 mins from MS, so that probably helped), and, after taking apart the old mouse and screwing around with its guts, I was able to repair the old one. So, now I have a backup if this one ever fails. Microsoft took responsibility for a design flaw, and that is something that you rarely see anymore. Sorry if that was longwinded, but I was impressed and I am not easily impressed.

I have the Logitech Cordless freedom keyboard and mouse. The only poblem I have is the mouse will just stop working and I have to unplug the USB reciever wait a bit then plug it back in. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will work again.

I had the same kind of problem with my gamepad on my pc.
It'd do that, but it'd also turn on-and-off repeatedly.

I dissected the damn thing and cleaned it, but it didn't help.

Eventually I taped the cord straight on a ruler and it works just fine. Just seemed to be some kind of kink.

mouse

I was going to get the mx700
but i bought the mx 500 usb
and it works great

hello hello!

i just looked up the mx700 on the net and found that it seems to be the cordless dream... but how does it do for gaming?? no in terms of fps but in physical properties... The Mx700 is rather curvy and i know that sum curvy mice are hard to use when gaming. (instead of just moving ur wrist u would have to move ur whole arm...) How does the mouse do in that department? I don't wanna have to cut down on frags in UT jest fer a mouse...

And for all of those who use a corded mouse and don't wanna change: the mx700 sends a signal to the receiver 125 times every second. That is as fast as usb1.1 will allow. Ps/2 is even slower so you definately won't be seeing any mouse lag.

Mice

the mx500 is great
also it feels good in the hand the only thing that might give you some problems is the 2 thumb buttons if you have never used a mouse with them i have had them for a long time..
when my friend uses it , it drives him nuts because i have one of the buttons set up to close the program

Any one used one of these Targa mouses ?

http://www.targus.com/product_details.asp?sku=PAUM005U

http://www.targus.com/product_Detail...K050U#Features

The reciever seems very small .

mice

yes i have tried the 005 one and it sucks for some reason
the usb with that wireless transmitter would not work right
it says you cant have to close to power cords
the second link is for the charger for the mouse

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?pa...2&languageid=1 this mouse works geat only 49:00 at compusa

All Logitech people here, with about 2 microsoft =P

The Targus ones claim to go up to 3 feet, but I can't vouch for that.

I don't see why you want a cordless for your laptop anyway...anyone have a good reason let me know.

Presentations? Lol, remote control if you don't have the 8886 ;-) In any case, you can't have cordless mice near power cords because of the transformer electromagnetic interference... like taking a 2.4Ghz phone near a running microwave oven... ouch, lol.

Having more than 1 cordless device nearby

Since I know many of you use your notebooks as super-portable LAN party monsters =) let me share a little experience w/ cordless devices I had last week at a LAN party. Two brothers brought their identical systems to the party, and the key point for this topic is that they both had the same Logitech wireless keyboards and mice. They set up right next to each other, and we then discovered that the wireless devices were conflicting with each other. When one was moving his mouse or typing on the keyboard, the other person's cursor would behave erratically or not move at all. You would think that there should be a setting to change the frequency for one of the devices, but we couldn't find anything. In the end, when we placed their computers across from each other and separated the receivers by about 5 feet, they worked fine and we practiced the art of Warcraft3 for the rest of the night/morning. =)

So, just something to be aware of if you're considering going wireless; the radio waves will conflict if two devices are close together. This and the need to occasionally replace batteries has kept me a wired trackball user.

That was shortsighted on Logitech's part. If the cordless stuff is going to be popular they didn't think about making different frequencies?

Or is it like the whole car deal where they can't make every key different so some are the same? Interesting things have come from that...

There was a story about a guy who forgot where his car was and opened the wrong car...the key worked in the other car and he drove away and was miles away before he realized it wasn't his car.
