3790 vs HL2

Can the Sager 3790 take on the demands of Half Life 2?
I read in the PC Gamer review that the specs of 3790 fit in between the low end specs and the mid range requirement...
Will it be able to play the game well?
I mean, 3790 did play Doom3 flawlessly...

i think you should be fine...but u may(MAY) have to play on low, medium for good preformance and high w/ some lag, at least thats what i think

It also depends on the specs of your 3790.

A 3790 with a dothan 2.0 and 1gig of ram should be able to handle HL2 on med/high.

If you have wuxga, playing at native res could be a stretch. Other than that you should be fine.

There's a huge difference between a Dothan 2.0 GHz and a 2.0 GHz P4. The article was probably referring to P4s with the GHz suggestions. Aside from that, it's just got a midrange to low end video card. It should run it okay. Why don't you look up the benchmarks of Counterstrike: Source?

They said that CS Source isn't as harsh on the PC as HL because it doesn't fully unilize the Source Engine

There is a huge difference since a Dothan 2.0GHz, when running at full capacity, outperforms the 2.0GHz P4. Just take a look at benchmarks for the Dothan 2.0GHz - they are often comparing it against 3.0+GHz P4 with the Dothan performing just below, just the same, or just above. I also have a thread that poses a similar question about the latest FPS's - I just wish someone would actually give their two cents...

I have 1.7 Dothan and 1 gig of ram... I hope I can run it...

It runs smoothly @1024x768 on medium settings on my AMD2100 with 512mb ram and a geForce Ti4200 128mb AGP8x.

The 3790's should be able to handle it no problem.

This is a question I've been waiting to answer myself. I already have the game and am waiting the arrival of the 3790 to play it. Might actually try it on the girlfriend's computer, but I don't know that it will do all that well on it. Hers might barely play it on the low end. It sure sounds like I'll be ok on the 3790 (1.8 Ghz, 1 GB RAM). I never expected to play it on high settings on a laptop, so if I can get it to play well on Medium, I'll be quite happy!

I have heard from viewing around the posts n reading that the 3790 can either handle the latest and greatest games on medium with no problems and looking hot and on high with just a few hiccups here and there and of course too many on extremee, or a little better with no problems on high and on extereme just a few hiccups.

Not sure if its the credit of the game makers not to force it so that only the best hardware can run these games, but I am happy that the 3790 seems to be able to handle them all nicely and beautifuly - i would just like like to get some personal experience.

if you have any, go here:

and give you two cents please....

Yep. From everything I've read, the 3790's Dothan is plenty fast. The limit in that case is probably the GPU, but you should end up playing things at medium settings just fine.

I'm doing the setup on my 3790 right now (installing drivers and other things), so I expect to install the game in a little bit. I'll let you know how it plays at the various settings a little later.

My 3790:
Pentium-M (Dothan - 755) 1.8GHz
1025MB 333DDR RAM (2x512)
15.4" WSXGA+ LCD (1680x1050)
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 128MB
80GB HDD 5400 RPM
8x DVD+- combo drive w/ DVD+R DL
802.11-b/g Integrated Wireless

Just played around 5 hours of Hl2 today on medium graphics and it lags everonce in awhile but runs smoothly other than that ... the only problem i am seeing is that the left palm rest becomes unberable hot and i either have to stop playing or but a cloth down to take the heat away from my hand ... is there something wrong with my laptop or is every's one becoming to hot

"unbearabley hot" - sounds like your being a little dramatic about it. Im sure it can get somewhat uncomfortable - but unbearble seems to go too far. Then again, I am not you and cant say how you feel.
Yes, its normal, especially when pushing the system to its limits for five hours in a row. Don't worry about it, all 3790's do that, but some seem to say its not that noticeable and others whine about as if they were just lit on fire. I guess you fall in the middle somwhere.

Anyway, I am shocked its doesnt run 100% smooth on medium considerind some spec things I have read about hte game and the 3790. I figured, and others have said, that it should run perfectly on low and medium, run smooth on high with a some hiccups, and be crappy to play on extreme. Well, I will take your word for it and see what others say as well - at least we can all play doom 3 and Far Cry on medium/high with out any issue!

BTW - what are the specs on your machine?

Mine on Doom3 looks fine on the highest settings but runs at 11fps when it comes to highly textured areas .... I not sure on hl2 about the lags it just happens every once in awhile and it is a split second thing ... I also have a echo indigo so i have something else generating heat there under the left palm rest so ... that could be why it is hotter than normal ...
