It wouln't be possible unless you were real near the transmitter and had no major reflecting sufaces in your vicinity. Wi-Fi operates ~ 2.4 Ghz, very short wavelength, (.125 Meters) (Small antenna), TV operates ~ 50 to 500 Mhz LONNNG waves (6 to .6 Meters), Big antenna.

There's really no such thing as an internal antenna unless the notebook happens to have the card built in. Even then, it is extraordinarily unlikely it would work well.

TV reception needs a proper antenna or a strong signal. Your best chance of success is a plain old telescoping rabbit ear antenna.

To be honest, while it is nice having a TV tuner available for my laptop, I have yet to find a situation when I'd actually use it on the road. Whilst the card is tiny, a useful antenna is going to be less than portable.

I use mine to record shows and convert video.

does this avertv have built in mpeg decoder? I think its small so it doesn't so wouldn't it be better to get the USB tuners?

Nope. It uses software decoding.

While it's great that it has S-VIDEO inputs (A big plus for people who want to hook up digital satellite/cable or a gaming console to the laptop), the huge size of the thing is sort of a turn-off. I don't really want something sticking that far out the side of the laptop. Perhaps future models will be able to reduce the size of the part that sticks out.

You think that's huge? Have you seen the USB equivalents? The PCMCIA card bulge is nothing compared to carrying around the separate USB "brick".

Well, I have now. I'm away for a couple of weeks on business and staying in corporate apartments. I like to watch TV in bed, but there is only one box and it is in the lounge room where I am staying. There is, however, an antenna connection nice and handy next to the bed.

This would be the perfect use of the tuner card. If I had remembered to bring it with me.
