Need some Advice

Well, I have tried everything I can think of and nothing I can do will fix my brokenlaptop. It won't even boot. It is totally useless. As some of you know I am in China teaching English this year. I will not be home until June of 2005. I've called Alienware Tech support and Emailed numerous times to Customer Support. Alienware will do NOTHING for me. I work for a non-profit orgainization here in China so I'm not exactly rolling in money. I have to borrow a pc when I need to use one. I have to say that I'm highly disappointed in Alienware right now. I even told them that I would return the laptop to them for 50% of what I paid for it and they wouldn't do it.

So here is my question. I WAS thinking about getting the computer fixed in June of 2005 (Warrenty until September 2005) and then selling the laptop. I know that some of you watch the market more then others and I'm wanting to get some EDUCATED guesses on how much I could possibly squeeze out for the laptop.

Its a 766 model with 3.0 ghz/ 60 gig 7200 rpm hd/ 1024 2700RAM/ 128 5700 Video (I also have the 5600 as a spare) / 16.1" Screen / two batteries/ 2 ac cords / Targus Backpack / Windows XP Professional / Internal Wireless card / Antec Notebook Cooler / Alienware mousepad and all the crap they send with the machine ie. notebook papers all the boxes that it's sent in. Everything I got the day I ordered except for the T-shirt (which I still wear)

I was thinking that I could get a couple of grand out of the deal after it's fixed, but now that the New 7700 Model is out, I'm not so sure. What do you guys think? And if anyone is interested in buying it AFTER its fixed by Alienware let me know.

On the boot issue. Will it power on and not boot into Windows or just not power on?

No re-format, because it won't boot from the cd or the harddrive. It gives me two short beeps then another short beep. I did not get a disk to put it back into the "original settings." I've tried all these things before and nothing has worked.

I didn't say "Hey does anyone want to buy this?"

I asked how much do you think I can get AFTER I get it fixed by Alienware. I thought I made that quite clear at the end of the post.

Turmoil, I've had this laptop for a year and its not the only problem I've had, its just that I'm in China right now. With NO pc to do my work. When my laptop broke down in America, I could just sent it to FL and get it fixed, but NOW I can't do that. I'm screwed and Alienware will NOT help me at all because I"m out of the country. I am not willing to send it over the Chinese postal system. Mainly because I figure someone would steal it. I also don't have the correct boxes to send it home in.

I'm just asking HOW MUCH you guys THINK I can get AFTER I get it fixed by Alienware. I thought that was clear. I've already posted about how to fix it and no one seemed to know. I am just curious now as to how much you think i can get. Thats all. Thanks. Now I have to wait another 12 hours while you guys sleep all night for a reply! haha.

Please don't read this and think that I'm getting mad at anyone, I'm just frustrated at my laptop. Thanks again! It has been 2 months since I've had a working pc of my own. Thats difficult to deal with when your in a foreign country and teaching at the university level.

Have you tried reseating the memory or trying one module at a time?

Yes I've tried reseting memory, tried to boot with each in different slots multiple times. I even put the memory in another person's machine and it worked fine. I've tried taking out the wireless card, didn't work, I've tried taking out the video card and putting in my spare, didn't work. I've tried using my spare battery, I've tried using no battery. Nothing works. I've pretty much come to grips with the fact that I WILL NOT FIX IT ON MY OWN. I want to know your opinions about the market value of the 5500 notebook. I thought I had made myself quite clear in asking that numerous times now. I guess no one here keeps on eye on these things.

You can look on Ebay to get a general idea of what they are going for. Be careful because there are a lot of scams on Ebay though. Some individuals have actually made a profit off their Alienware's when the demand exceeded supply, especially when the 16.1" became scarce. I sold mine for an $800 loss at $1,800, but it was the 15.4".

Another thing, did you recently attempt to updgrade the BIOS?
