What should I expect out of the box? - Page 2

You could run Quake3 on that graphics core... :-) But not any games based on the optimized ID engine (Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast, Medal of Honor, etc) I don't think.

Just checking. Who knows if you meant just...Quake =P
post #23 of 31
lol, actually, I have never played a Quake before 3.

You should try it =P Ever play "Dark Forces?" any of the old FPS? They're all basically the same gameplay, just with different graphics.

I like Half-Life's storyline though.

My favorite is Deus Ex.... not really old though. I played System Shock 2... wow the graphics on that are so different from the modern, lol.

Deus Ex sounds familiar, but I've never played it.

That's the only way FPS evolves, though. Through graphics. There's never anything new.

Den.... win2k... One of the worse OS's. Almost as bad as ME *shudders just tyeping that*. XP rocks. I have not had an XP crash since I put it on. And i have been running it for a year now.

The only way fps's evolve?
NOT TRUE!
You havent played No one lives forever? Deus Ex? Perfect Dark? Doom 3? Halo? Counterstrike? Jedi Knight2?
Each one of them is soooo sifferent, though they are all FPS'S

Wolfmoon: can't be any worse than the 98 se i'm running. XP and 2000 are both NT-based, so neither would crash a lot. The main advantage XP has over 2000 is that it is very customizable.

ME is the most unstable of them all, that's why XP came out to "combine 2000 and ME."

Zachquiel: well I think they're all basically the same gameplay; go around, if you see someone, kill. Occasionally you'll meet a teammate, lots of weird stuff.

Of the ones you listed, i've only played Halo and Counterstrike. The main difference in FPS is the speed. Some games are fast, like UT and Halo, while others require other things, like counterstrike does. Counterstrike is more of a careful-play. I guess that would be a difference.

FPS do change in the different ways of doing things... battlefield for example allows you to use vehicles more, it's mostly FPS. Deus Ex is all conspiracy theory and plot based... seriously the best game single player wise EVER... so mind teasing and stuff. Alien vs Predator 2 is just plain scary as hell, lol, so there are differences. Graphics is the big selling point though I think (at first at least, when the game is new and unknown)

Well the ideas are different, the plots are different, but it's all really just about moving around a killing people. The differences are in how to kill the people. Sometimes it's all out fighting, sometime's it's hand to hand, sometimes it's trickery, and sometimes it's about hiding and being silent.
