Well not even 2 days old and Area 51m has a problem - Page 3

I too am sorry to hear it worked out like this for you Senseless. I've had two awesome machines and experiences with Alienware and can only say that I truly wish you had the same.

Keep us posted on what you get and how it works out.

I understand your anger Senseless. Spending 2500$ on a machine that doesn't work is ironically "senseless." Best of luck on your next purchase. Look at Sagers... I have heard some amazing things from a close friend of mine. Also, depending on how much $$$ you got, FNW is a wonderful company. Just ask Micro. Nah seriously though, good luck with the next purchase.

Maybe i'm wrong, but that's my point of view, for everything, not only for laptop.
Which is EXACTLY why I bought the Porsche instead of the Corvette

Your correct, but only to a certain degree because you learn more about a company by how they treat those who have problems then you ever will by simply looking at how many didn't have problems.

If you recieve a system with problems do you really care how many others got a problem free system, or do you really just care about how they are going to resolve any issues?

Alienware is all hype, I'm glad I sold mines. Plain fact is Alienware is not big enough to give you a new laptop, instead of waiting for you to send your broken one in to get fix. I went thru the same thing as you Senseless and it annoyed the hell out of me. My laptop was gone for a month.

I have better experience with Dell. When I had issues with one dead pixel, the Dell supervisor offer to send me a brand new laptop first, then once I get it I could send the one I have in. How's that for service????

All I have to do is pop out my hard drive from the old one and stick it in the new one with no lost day of computing. I didn't even have to whine.

I am impress by Dell now, before I was like AW > Dell but now I realized Dell can afford to send me a new laptop without worrying about losing money just to keep me happy.

You can't have good customer service if you can't back it up with resources.

DELL's a big company... ttz y... just look around... how many models does dell have and how many models does alienware have

[quote=Senseless]As I sat here and read everyones post on thier experiences, I thought to myself that maybe some people just like to complain because they hate AW. I thought how could a machine that goes through 14 phase be defective and not to mention the great reviews on it.

Well I got my Area 51m yesterday.....had some questions I posted on the case itself and then the internal wireless. I resolved those issue..........Spend 4 hours loading software onto the machine, games and work applications. Once I was done I decided to load one of my games up and see how it ran. So I loaded up Dark Age of Camelot and noticed that I had graphic issues on the screen..."artifacts Alienware calls it". I decided to test a second game before thinking I needed to re-install first game. Same issue with Battlefield1942.

At this point it was late and I decieded to sleep on it. I came into work with it and called Tech support. I spent 1 hr and 30 min trying to go through thier process of narrowing the problem down. Then he says well we have went through everything now I need you to reformat the HD and reinstall XP..............At this point I got really pissed becuase I spent 4 hours the night before loading software......He said he has to cover every basis before they think the video card is bad. So I went ahead and did it and re-installed everything (what a pain in the ass when you buy a $2500.00)

So now they state ok we think you have a bad video card...........We are going to replace your card. I was like great thanks, let's do this.......Then he says you should have your new card in 5 to 10 business days. I said what the hell are you talking about. You sold me a bum machine and I went through all this crap above why do I have to wait 5 to 10 ........I said for $2500 you should put someone on a plane and fly it out here. He then comes back and says well the best I can do is 2nd day........still not happy with it I accepted it......and I fought this issue, but they said they have no overnight service.

Based upon not having overnight service, my experience with customer service ranked 2 on a scale from 1 to 10.

I guess in 4 days I'll find out if that fixes it............What I wont do is send this in to the depot to get fixed, since its not even 24hrs old in my hands I'll return it for a refund or demand a new one.

"Reinstall Windows" is the usual reply.

Why?

Because Windows is just such a terrible OS.

I'm really thinking about a move to Mac. Its rock solid and "support" never seems to say "Reinstall OS X".
