Why buy Alienware?

I just "came into" a little money, not much, mind you, but I thought it would be enough for a decent laptop, and as I need one for my job, seemed like a good idea.
I thought Alienware! because of the ads and they just look darned cool, so I hit their site, started pricing... and ouch. But if they're all that and a bag of fries, I'm okay with a hefty investment... but are they?
Comparing the prices of an Alienware system and a Dell, there's a price difference of almost $200
Then check Ebay (just in case), and the price discrepency jumps even further - a full $1000 difference! So... what's the deal? Is it the cool alien on the front? The customer service? Why should I wait 45(+) days AND spend $1000 more?

You get a better quality laptop than Dell (although I'm sure someone would argue otherwise), plus its so good looking. I've heard the customer and technical support are better than Dell. I've not had to use it, but I didn't buy from AW because they arguably have better customer service than the rest. I could care less.
I bought Alienware because it fits my needs and I've had and used other laptops from other companies that were basically worthless.

Oh, one more thing. If you don't want to wait, DON'T get an Alienware. If you don't care to wait a little while, then DO get an Alienware. Its that simple. Don't get all riled up because your laptop is delayed.

Bought on 11/5, shipped 11/12

Just wanted to disprove that it takes an extremely long time to get a Sentia. Mine shipped exactly when predicted...Should be receiving it tomorrow...woo hoo

Snickerf, what were the systems you were considering? XPS, Area51 ? Sentia?

I was comparing the Area51m to the Dell Inspiron 9100, give or take a few specs, mind you.
I'm a little flexible on it, but what I'm looking for is a laptop that'll handle the games of today with ease, so I won't have to upgrade for a few years, since that's about how long I'll be paying it off
I'm really jazzed over the look and support from Alienware, but shipping time concerns me, as if I ordered now, realistically, I wouldn't be seeing it before the new year.

Ebay is not a fair comparison in this case, most of those auctions are scams.

i'd say go for alienware if you are going to be playing games. you get quality with alienware. that's just my opinion

Unless you are going with the new 7700, Dell offers better specs on the XPS laptop than AW's Area-51m.

IMHO Sager is where it's at.
The latest Sager is the same system as the new Alienware 7700. Just a heads up.
Right, but only cheaper, and with top service if you get it from PCTorque.
No argument here...PCTorque is the only way to go for a Sager purchase if you're opposed to AW, FNW, Voodo, ect.

I just thought the point should be made there are many places to get this computer now. Shop around if you're not sold on any particular reseller.

AND HOW!

No sooner had you posted this than I came [] close to being taken for 500-1000 (depending on the person).

Good thing I'm smarter than the average Romanian scam artist.

*whew*
Off to find other sources for my new-found Alienware addiction.

You say Sager is comparable?

Sager makes solid laptops...check out PCTorque.com

The reason to go with alienware was just given to me today.

I started having an issue with the blue screen of death and loading Half Life 2.

I think I wsa on th ephone with them for about 2.5-3 hours. We went through everything, updated everythning, you name it. Finally, they came to the determination that somewhere along the lines my graphics card, ram, or my cdrom have an issue, one or a combination there of anyway. SO what do they do, they are sending me all three! The only thing a little odd about the ordeal is that they require enough room on a credit card to make the order. So, I gotta open up some room to do that at some point, or they are willing to send one at a time for me. They hold that part of the credit card open for the cost of the part, just in case you don't return the faulty part. You have warranty fakers for that. Anyone who has ever screwed a company out of warranty helped contribute.

Anyway, unlike a lot of companies who refused to replace parts for me, these guys offered it up freely. One guy even made mention that I might be able to give it back and get a refund, then go for a 7700. However, I'm past my 30 day return period, thought that it might have been longer then that. Anyway, My point is, yes they charge a bit more for their computers, but it is because they are willing ot bend over backwards to try to find a fix without having you replace anything, but when they do need you too, they don't require you to go to depot. If I want to, I can just say that I want them to do the work, and I'm sincerely thinking about it. I want to make sure it is done right. Anyway, it is your dollar, and sager is truly comparrable, but I'm about service, because I don't know everything about computers.

I've had not heard of someone getting a Sentia in a week period of time. That's pretty amazing. Congrats with that purchase.
Cause the AW t-shirt is user friendly and it dosen't require updates.

I have to jump in here. I bought the Sager 9860 from PCTorque.. I ordered it monday and got it yesterday. Try that with Alienware..heh.. its the exact same laptop. And when I mentioned that I had two lit blue pixels.. PCTorque called Sager and Sager agreed to not only replace my screen but cover shipping. Keep in mind I didn't ask for a replacement nor did I complain.. They took it upon themslves to take care of me..now that is good customer service..

You can't go wrong with either system (both the same made by Clevo) top bench so far is 9040 in 3dmark 03...

No one has ever say PCT was anything short of the best place to buy Sager. Just wanted to jump in
