HP ze4560us Fan Problems

Thread Starter
I own a HP ze4560us notebook (Athlon XP-M 2500+, 512mb Ram, 40GB HD, Ati IGP 320m) I recently installed WinXP Pro on the notebook with SP2. Since then I've been having problems with the processor fan, it never really speeds up, no matter if the temp is 44C or 65C it does not speed up. I tried installing the AMD drivers but that did not help.
Anyone have any ideas? How can I check if the fan is really going slow or not at all? Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same notebook and my fan never came off high speed until I put some heatsink paste on the processor. I haven't figured out how to monitor the temp. How do you monitor it?
Maybe take some canned air and blow in the slots on the bottom side and see if dust comes out. That might not be a good idea though--see what some of the others say.

There is a free monitor program that works excellent on laptops. Even monitors hard drive temp. It may be you are one of the lucky one that has a cool running desktop CPU in a notebook. Does it hang, Freeze, or restart unexpectedly? If not and your temp doesnt hit 90C I'd leave well enough alone. This is a common shut down temp in laptops. (Although thats a bit warm)..

I used Speedfan to monitor the Fans and it says Fan1 0 RPM and Fan2 0 RPM.

"Google" mobile meter its a free utility for monitoring CPU speed and temp.. Also monitors hard drive temp..(If supported) and battery charge/discharge rates..

Sorry I should have added that I also use Mobile meter to measure the temps. I'm gonna try reverting to the laptops original OS with the recovery disks since the problem started with a new install of WinXP Pro and SP2.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks
