Dual Opterons with SLI

Hi,
I've been thinking about getting a dual Opteron with SLI (Probably one 6800 GT to begin with, and when I get bored and find enough money, add another one). Now, a few questions I have to ask the wise people here:

1. Does Windows XP (Pro) support multiprocessing well? Especially with Opterons? I know that HT with P4s work, but do dual Opterons really add much to Windows?
2. If not, how about Linux? Say, using Gentoo, would there be any trouble with driver like stuff and SLI?
3. 6800 GT or Ultra. The classic question. If I do get a PCIe gpu, it would be one of the 6800s, but I hear that the GT can overclock to near Ultra speeds while the Ultra is better for it's fan, power, yada yada. Your opinion?

Well, if you can help me answer these questions (these things are pretty... say, new, so I couldn't find any adequate answers myself), thanks a lot. Godspeed.

Edit: Oh yeah, I'm thinking of getting the iwill dk8es, which might not be out for you people in America, but for me, I have connections in Taiwan (I live in Singapore), so poo on you Any other suggestions for mobo, though?

Yea, Microsoft does advertise Windows XP Pro's multiprocessing capabilities alot.

SLI isnt even out, we cant be sure about that question.

It's all about price really. The 6600GT can never hope to reach the speeds of the 6800 ultra. Even after overclocking. But it's alot cheaper. Basically you pay for what you get.

But if you decide to go with the ultra, just be reminded that you will be required to have a really beefy power supply to power 2 of them as they suck ALOT of power. Plus, they get rather toasty so you gotta have a well ventilated case.

For the choice in motherboards, i suggest you look at Tyan's range. Ive been hearing alot of good things about Tyan's multiprocessor boards, but i would suggest that you wait it out till Nforce 4 is released and see if there are any that support multiprocessing.

Heh.. Well, a reason I might be getting iwill over Tyan is because of my father's company's "connections" with them. So, maybe I might be able to get a bit... better tech support? I'll see when the time comes around. Maybe I'll get the thing fixed together in December or so and tell you guys about it. Wait... what M$ says is true? I think I saw somewhere, maybe tomshardware.com, that XP doesn't "utlize multiprocs to full potential" or something. Well. Thanks NovaShine! And... thanks to thestudent for his wonderfully neutral-constructive comment. I guess.

Actually, if ur talking about that multiprocessor optimization guide by Toms, it's been shown that it dosnt do anything over stock settings and gives u a bigger chance of fuxxoring things up. If i were u, i would take anything Toms says with a big grain of salt.

Mmmm... salt... Well, thanks NovaShine. So XP is ok with multiprocs. I guess. I'll probably be running Linux as well, just to see if there's much different and what not. Thanks for the help!
