9860 is dated. the only laptop worth getting is 4750. - Page 3

Two years from now is far enough that a simple CPU and GPU swap-out seems just fine to me.

I also find it kind of funny that you forgot the Acer Ferarri.

Why do you people keep feeding this troll? Pearls before swine.
Watching this thread is like watching a train wreck, where a kid who can't even spell or punctuate runs around calling people ignorant.
Oh well, it's kind of funny, anyways.

Just so I'm clear about this, is there anyone who actually cares what he thinks?

I don't. Do I count?

That j4ever is a bloody freak!! You sound like a bloody child, coming here to brag about future nonsense.

We are talking about today's standards!!!! Longhorn is 2006.........in 2006 there will be a new 64bit laptop we can buy.

When Loghorn is eventually released...........we'll buy bloody 64bit laptops to satisfy your bloody bragging and b$llsh!t.

Its not history til they no longer make money from 32..as I said..your an idiot if you think millions will drop 32 bit over night.. gamers probably...but that is a small niche..

Not to dig on the respectful teens in the crowd here @ NBF, but that's pretty much true to a T. I'm glad I don't have to know so much now that I'm older. Less stressful that way

And of course, there are excellent contributors of all ages.

Actually considering MS's history with OS the safe money would be that it will not be released until sometime in 2007 at the earlier and of course in 3 years any laptop bought today will be FAR from being a gaming machine. Hell look at laptops, and even desktops, from 3 years ago and you will see how pathetic they seem compared to todays products.

My desktop has an Athlon64 in it, not because at some point in the distance future a 64 bit OS and programs might be available for it, but instead I got it for it's gaming performance today.

We can only speculate that since Longhorn has a few years till its official unveiling, Microsoft thinks that by that time 64Bit will be the norm and 32Bit would have fazed out.
Heh, I think he needs to read the information he posted.

i was trying to keep my post polite...but you know what ? this guy is a true troll...
i have never seen a post by j4ever that was either helpful ..or did not turn into an abusive forum where everyone starts fighting and it ends up being closed by a moderator...

Obviously J4Ever has never had an 8890. It's "The Daddy."
.... and i guess he doesn't realize that even though he has a 64-bit processor in his 'godly' laptop, he still is running a 32-bit mobo... and ram... and CD/DVD... and NIC... and whatever else....

and just to let everyone know... MS hasn't said anything about longhorn being 64-bit exclusive.... and if I remember correctly there was a 32-bit pre-release that obviously wasn't 64-bit

Dude, you should think about wht you're saying before you basically tell everyone that they are wrong and you are right. 64 bit may be the wave of the future, but when it is finally released, you won't be running it on the 4750 unless you like waiting. The 9860 is a technically superior machine in terms of longitivity, power, and gaming. The only thing the 4750 has going for it is a smaller size and 64 bit chip, which should one day run in the 9860. Don't get me wrong, I love AMD Athlon 64's much more than Intel crap, but the processor doesn't make the computer.

P-m

Guys, just make something clear to me. Why they don't do those "titanic" Pentium 4 notebooks more like "royal carribean" kind with Pentium-M??
It don't run PCI-E? Smaller FSB? No DDR2? Less raw power?
But it sure will look more like a notebook with a smaller form factor, isn't that right?
Cheers.

You guys are all missing the point of 64bit technology. All that this does is allow you more addressable memory for a single executable. You will not see a speed increase in your computer by going to 64bit. In fact, you'll most likely see a decrease. 64bit will gain you power not speed.

WXP has a 2-3GB limitation on a single executable. With some tweaks, you can push that to about 4GB. A 64bit machine will have something like a 256TB limitation although AMD has restricted this to 1TB (if I remember correctly).

However, very few applications today breach the 32bit limitation. Unless you're trying to analyze a 3D model of a whole vehicle crashing into a wall, or something close to that, you're not likely to have a need for 64bit for a long time.

It's a marketing thing.
