i8kfangui not working anymore

Thread Starter
hey guys-

i need to know what to do, the fangui program won't read my fan/temp speeds any longer it just has two dashes in the taskbar, and when i do an update from within the program it does the same thing. does this mean my fans are d.o.a.? and if so do i need to contact dell for new ones?

Thanks!

Rip it out and let dell software run your fans. That program is not supported by dell and what you are getting sounds like a software error. Try riping out and then re-installing.

uninstall it, then slap it back in......should do the trick.

Update the BIOS recently?
I had the same issue as of today... And three days ago I updated my BIOS from A03 to A05, and also installed the latest Dell Video drivers and BIOS.

I wonder why it took a few days for the temp thing to break?

Happened to me when I went from 03 to 05. All I did was went into the prefs and told it to read and presto.

its known to be unstable so it will randomly just lose contact with temperature readings.

It's really strange - I've reinstalled i8kfangui, told it to re-read the temp, but still it's not working.

I can only assume that something related to the A05 BIOS update - but it's strange how it took a few days to break

Ditto here...

I was playing half life 2 and all of a sudden it said it couldn't read one of the fans...then a short time later it stopped reading both. Now all I get is two small blocks in place of where the temp should be in the sys tray. I've also noticed loss of automatic control to fans so I have uninstalled and hope for a better version to someday come out.

It quit working for me immediately after the A05 BIOS update. Tried reinstalling twice with no luck so I went back to the A04 BIOS I was on previously and it wouldn't work with it anymore either! No FanGUI for me for now...

I upgraded to the A05 a week ago, upon reboot FanGUI informed me of the BIOS change. It said it would reconfigure automatically, which it did. Been working correctly since.

you can't say that with a non-dell-supported-program
