hi, i bought a laptop from ebay, it's Toshiba's Portege 3490CT, a ultra portable , 1inch thick laptop, that has no internal floppy or CD-Rom, it has only one USB port!

and i have one extenal floppy which i can plug in and boot from it, and a USB -burner, which seems need a driver before can use it.

now i do , have a floppy of the driver, and can boot from that floppy with the driver so while in MS-Dos, the cd-rom can be access. but the problem is..

HOW CAN I BOOT FROM CD in Ms-Dos???
i plan to install Linux.

thank you

Your BIOS doesn't recognize the external CD drive w/o driver?

You can install OS via network

Linux is small enough to install via USB pen drive / external floppy/cd drive.

You can also install windows this way...

Linux is huge, 3 cds, i konw i can install from those, but the problem is i can't boot from USB cd-rom until i install the driver under dos, which mean, i have to go through DOS first, and then install an OS, but HOW? what command i type in DOS to activate the linux installation, instead of booting from it.

dos prob. won't support your drive, but for starters I have a copy of linux (SUSE 9.2 pro) thats 5 cds what ferrari is saying is that just install the most basic form linux, no gui but and only the drivers you need and then just add to the instalation. Worst comes to worst you could prob find a compatible docking station also on ebay which would have an integrated cd drive which the bios would support...
