Is there a better MODILE machine for GAMING then the 3790?

My 3790 is soon to arrive (goodbye old laptop, hello new hole in my pocket) -- and from what some are saying, I am beginning to wonder if I should have spent my 2,000+ budget on something else.

I wanted something truley mobile that could be unplugged for four hours - but i also want to play the latest and greated FPS withouth having to shove them on the low quality setting (would perfer to not even use the medium either).

The specs of my order are in my signature below, so please consider MY specs in answering this (as i basically got every option to the max that you could get from PCTorque), and not your own as you might not have the same machine (for better or worse).

Is the 3790 the best out there for a $2,500 budget that meets these criteria?

Let me know your thoughts (please use brain cells when answering and stay on topic), and let me know if you think that I should cancel my order and make a different purchase...

(DTR = DeskTop Replacement -- hey, some peeps dont know)

Right at this minute the 3790 is the best mobile gamer period. specs wise. You will most likely see a better mobile gamer when the Alviso chipset comes out.

I have that same setup except i got uxga. it works perfectly for me. the sscreen is great the graphics loos great and there is no slowdown wahtsoever. ive curently played warcraft 3 and world of warcraft at max settings. with the 12 cell i get about 3 hours batery life playing a game with wifi bluetooth and max brightness and sound.

I am alomost in the same boat as you. I need the mobility and although the 9860 fascinates me, I cannot justify a DTR. My only difference to your situation is that I don't NEED my laptop until April-May 05. Thats not to say that I couldn't use a laptop extensively right now but I don't specifically need the mobile aspect of computing until then. What I am worried about is putting off my purchase until I need the laptop and ending up buying the 3790 anyways when I could have been using it the entire time.

Oh man.

The 3790 is frigging awesome. I run HL2 on 1200x800 (I think that is the resolution at least) with everything on high, 2x AA and 16x AF. It runs extremely smooth.

Not to mention that the battery life is extremely good for a machine with this much power... I mean, this thing can be used both as a DTR and a truly mobile laptop.

I just ordered my 3790 on Monday and I got this morning at 10:30 -- well, I am in school in brooklyn, it got to my house on the island at 10:30 - but thats fast. PCTorque rules! Well, i didn't get the paint job and i did use overnight air mail - so i shouldnmt be shocked. Sucks I cant open it up and play with it!

Well Wensday when i go home I shall have much to talk to about - here's to hoping there are no dead pixels or any pother reason to send it back!

Three days after I order it, it comes - GO PCTroque!!!

I hate to point it out, but Dell's 9200 looks pretty interesting: 17" WUXGA, 7.7 pounds, and a rumored 5 hours of battery life.

I hate to say it like this, but Dell *urgh*

That said the 3790 setup you've got seems pretty sweet, and if its bout to ship why change? Get it. Be happy.

and worry about the rest of it when the time comes
