I know I asked earlier about a gaming revolution, and I got some interesting responses on what was going to be the more interesting game. Now that I've had a chance to play them, as I'm sure we all have by now, I think some things I said need to be re-thought.

First and foremost, that I said this was going to cause a revolution. Sorry, Nothing really new and outstanding that is going to change the way I look at games, besides the fact that I think every game will be ugly and unrefined compared to HALO 2 on xbox. The game play of halo 2 was often thrilling, gave you a sense of power in a way. Admit, the first time you rammed that energy blade down an opponents throat (both in campaign and online) you were thinking it. OH HELL YEAH!
However, due to the fact that they ended up including alot less then they had originally planned, and the ending alone gave the game a little bit of a lacking feel. Like something was missing, but you can't say what. Let's hope that by the time halo 3 comes out, the new xbox is out for one, and that they finally find an ending for the game.

You have to admit though, halo 2's live play is second to none. I've never screamed, swore, yelled "eat it bitch!", meleed, stabbed, shot, sniped, squashed or guarded a flag more then I have in this game. Overall though, I don't get near as into any other game, and the ability to split screen and play live with my brother is cool. (doesn't have a good internet connection, so he bums mine)

Half-Life 2 brought nothing new for me to the table so far. I've not played too far into it yet, but it is a beautifully rendered game. Just wish I wans't having problems loading it on my laptop. My desktop runs it better probably anyway, ati card. I don't, however, think that it is any better or any worse then Doom 3 when it comes to graphics. Both render certain things better then the others. I like the lighting affects are(in my opinion) much better in doom 3, and some of the textures they used. The first time you get into a wide open world with HL 2, you will hope to god that when quake IV comes out, they can render all that beautiful lighting and shadow affects in such a wide open area like that. I think HL 2 has doom 3 beat in animation, the flawless motions of each charracter and the water affects are very good. Overall, a very good game, but I don't think it brought much new to gaming.

H2 and HL2 both have good stories with good twists and turns that keep you wanting to play. HL 2 is only hampered by the loading times. H2 has managed to keep the game going, I lost three hours without even knowing it. They keep it moving very well, non-stop action. The both have excellent physics, though I think HL 2 might have stepped it up a little better with a few more destructable objects in the world causing even more interesting reactions. Nice touch and sometimes makes for some mind boggling encounters.

Overall, I think they were both good games, but for replay ability and just over flat fun, I gotta stick with my original decision. I will stop playinhg HL 2 so I can go play online H2 with my friends and our newly started clan (we are clan poopy, that would be an accurate description of our game play ability)just because it is way more fun. I do, however have a greater respect for HL 2.

Both did feel a bit overblown though, what do you think?

I can honestly say that HL2 is the best first-person shooter I have ever played. I haven't played Halo 2 yet, but I doubt that it could top HL2.

Until Halo 2 is ported over to the PC, I don't think you can make a comparison on which is better.

A friend of mine is one of the biggest CS nuts on the planet and he recently got an Xbox. I let him borrow Halo and he didn't like it.

I have both. I have a hard time adjusting to using a joystick for aiming and not having WASD.
I even have WASD tattooed on my jimmy . . .you can say it is the original first person shooter.
I don't care who you are. That was funny

Half Life 2 all the way. I played Halo 2 but didn't enjoy it as much as HL2... I think HL2 is more involved and the Graphics blow Halo 2 out of the water... there is so much realism...

I like both games, but do you really believe HL2 has a lot of realism? GIant robots, alien race, gravity gun, other dimensions, host bodies, zombies, etc...

I think both of them are good. This is after owning and beating both games

When people say "realism" they mean by the graphics. Oh and I wouldnt even try to compare the realism of Halo 2.

comparing apples to oranges..

imo, you can't compare a console game (or hardware) to a pc game (or hardware). i could go into it, but then i'ld be comparing apples to oranges, so i'll just leave it at that

You read people's minds? Or how do you know that all people mean graphics when they say a game is realistic?

And about Halo2's realism... I havent seen anybody in this thread claiming that Halo 2 has so much realism...
well, I do mean graphics and by realism I mean the way objects move or fall, the sounds they make when shot at... etc... and the zombies too

I brought the xbox just for halo 2 and its a good game but hl2 is a much better game It's a shame they did not make it for pc.It would have been so much better of a game. Some reviews that I read they always said that hl2 is not a revolutionary game. What the hell are these people thinking? You tell me have there been any game this year that can match hl2.Hell no! Thats what I thought.Valve has showed us what a game should look like and play like and eveything that came before hl2 was just and excues doom3,far cry. Man I can't wait for the mods for hl2.I think 2005 is going to be a year for pc gaming.Mybe now we will get some real good games that can deal with all of these monster computer that we have.

How is the game revolutionary, besides the physics engine?

I honestly think that the overall realism is very good in both games, however I think half life 2 does have the advantage in animation. I do think that it is fair to compare the 2 games, even if it is different systems. You will get to see each ported over anyway. I think it is fair because of the overall reaction you have to a game. You can think in context of the different systems and what they played like on those system. I honestly can't play halo on computer, it sucks too much. I'm too used to the controller to turn back now. However, I tried playing halflife on PS2, useless. Since I'm able to look at both systems in that light, I think it is fair to compare the two, in some ways it is comparing apples to oranges. Half life 2 does have better graphics, but for the xbox system, HALO 2 out does alot of games. See what I mean. Overall, I think the best buy for me was HALO 2. I just can't stay off big team battle!

Halo 2 is a beautiful game, it is just limited by the XBox, comeon people the XBox is a P3 700 MHz, just wait until we can see Halo 2 running off a 6800 at 1600x1200

Its the first game to combine an amazing plot line with kick-ass graphics. Most other first-person shooters use recycled plot lines.

A lot of games have done that. Heck...Donkey Kong had Kick ass graphics in its day and age and had a story that was amazing compared to other games back then (most of which had no story). Its all relative.

Plus HL2 is a sequel. So its plot has to be semi-recycled by definition.
