Half Life 2 Freezing!! Help, Please!

Wow, I am unbelievably frustrated!

I am trying to play Half-Life 2 and I can not play for more than 15 seconds without it completely freezing.

The sound is stuttering every time it freezes. -- So I would guess it might be the sound, but it could be graphics or something else as well.

I am runnning:

-8890 w/ 512 Ram, and 9600 Pro with 128 RAM.
-The directX 9.0c installed by Half-Life 2

I just reformatted, installed the chipset drivers, installed network card, and then tried two different drivers -- the ones available from Sager (latest is v7.97) and I tried the Omega 2590 drivers.

With the v7.97 drivers, is when I can get in, but I freeze up. Then, with the 2590 drivers I cannot even start Half-Life 2 because it says "Cannot start shader program" or something like that.

Please HELP -- TIA,

abliviax

Get the Omega 2.5.44 drivers. Any past those are notorious for screwing up on the 8890, even WITH the bios update. You'll get a complaint from Half Life saying that the drivers are out of date, but it doesn't really matter. Game runs fine with them and everything but anti-aliasing turned on max.

Where can I get these drivers? On omegadrivers.net I can only see how to download the latest version.

I got a 8890 with the Catalyst 4.11 and the latest BIOS update, no overlay problems or any other problems at all.

Apparently this is a problem with HL2. Check the /. link.

it really helps to turn the resolution and settings down. I have it at 640x480 and mostly low/medium with reflections and textures set at high. it still is fun that way, believe me, even a lot more, cause it runs perfect.
