9200 order status

Checked the site this morning and it is already through kitting and build and is in the testing stage, so they are building them. Should be here way before the dec. 9th date they gave me for delivery. I am double happy now and can't wait to check out my new lappy. Let me know if anyone else is this close to completion.

When did yours move into the Build stage? In other words - how long was yours in the build stage before moving into testing?

Mine is in the testing stage too

That's awsome....

I ordered my 9200 last night (11/17) and this morning when I checked the order status, it already is up to the 'Testing' stage - 'Boxing' is next. However, I think the 9200 is built and shipped from overseas (then back to Dell in the US), so the shipping process from Asia back to Dell's hub here in the States will show as the 'boxing' stage on our end (which is why the 'Boxing' stage seems to take forever - it's really getting imported). How true is all that? I am not 100% sure.

Having said that, I am expecting a delayed 'Boxing' stage before it ships from its US destination then to me (via Next Day delivery). Still, Dell is usually conservative with their ship times, so I am sure we should expect the i9200 a few days sooner than what they are estimating.

I am glad I ordered it yesterday and was able to take advantage of the 25% coupon which gave me over $600 off the bottom line total price.

What are the major specs of your 9200? Did you customize at all?

I kept everything stock except for ram I had em' put in another 256MB of ram,
and went with a 60GB drive.

Mine was customized as well:

2GHz Dothan 755 (silly to go to 2.1GHz for the premium $$ vs performance difference)
17" XGA (after 30, the eyes aren't what they used to be!)
1GB DDR (it was dirt cheap from base, will upgrade to 2GB if I decide to keep it)
40GB HD (I've got a new Seagate Momentous 100GB 5400rpm HD that I am gonna' pop in)
Dell 1450 Wireless (54G)
Bluetooth
80WHr (9-Cell Battery)
24X CDRW/DVD Combo Drive (8X DVR is nice, but CDRW is too slow for what I need)
WinXP Home (I've got XP MCE 2005 CD which I will install clean on the new HD)
1yr Basic Warranty (will upgrade during the year if I keep it)

Mine's still in production not yet in kitting. I orederd the 8x DVD burner. It would appear that's what's holding it up. I recall seeing that an 8X DVD burner would delay the 8600 when I was comparing the two prior to ordering.

Mine was ordered on Sunday - and according to the website is not in "Kitting". According to the phone systme it's in "Build". But I didn't get the dvd burner. You might want to see what the phone system says about your order.

I customized mine too. Maybe they have these things in the states in mass and when orders come in they change or add the components to the order then ship them out .
My 8600 took 3 days from order to ship and 2 days for delivery. I don't think they got the thing to my house in 2 days from maylasia and one of those days was on the truck in florida. I would love to figure it out though.

Changed my order from 60 gig 4,200rpm to 60 gig 7,200rpm. They have to cancel the original order and issue a new one. Well the new order came 2 days after the first one but my ship date was extended a week, to Dec. 15 instead of Dec. 7

Brutal.

They also charged me MORE than what they should have. Luckily I only switched one spec and it's very easy to see what happens to the price. I called and had it fixed right away. They cancelled that 2nd order and issued a 3rd order with the new price fix.

Now the (extended) waiting game begins..

Is anyone's still in preproduction? I am under the impression that I have doomed myself to preproduction because I ordered a friggin' quicksnap cover! I ordered the black laquer quicksnap:

Now, it's not being advertised anymore. I've called Dell and they say there's no delays expected... It's on schedule to ship December 6th *grumble*. But I never trust people on the phone anymore. And seeing as so many others have entered the production phase... Any opinions?

Interesting, the 'Testing' stage is now complete and my order just went into 'Boxing'. Not bad for under 1 day!

However, as I stated above, I am predicting a long Boxing period as I believe these models are built in Asia, sent back to the states, then shipped from a US Dell Hub. I think I read that in the Dell Forum - makes sense too.

But, who knows!

Ok - I'm officially jealous!!! Mine has not changed since Sunday!

ive been in boxing since monday when do u think it will ship? dosent boxing take 3-4 days? u think ill be lucky and it ships by tomarrow?

Spitty,

The same thing had happened to me and they kept telling me everything was fine. After 5 phone calls they finally figured out that it had been taken out of line for a back order item and never put back in. Then the problem still wasn't resolved so I finally just gave up and cancelled. Dell customer service has gone down big time...I am going with a different brand. It really drove me nuts that they would just keep telling me "its a new model" when I knew something was wrong. I had ordered it 11/2 and it was still in preproduction.

You cancelled?
Hmm... I have some degree of patience...
I'm not that desperate...
But, the waiting is the hardest part. Especially when you know that it's one specific component. Does anyone know if it's possible to change a component of the order? For example, just switch from black laquer to carbon fiber?
I really don't care anymore. Just want my lappy!

Jivey - you cancelled? Good grief, man. The shipping estimate was December ... they told you that when you ordered. You can't order a computer and expect that they're going to make a special exception for you -- everyone wants their computer as fast as possible. When they give you a date, you should probably assume they'll ship it by that date. The only time you'd have a right to complain would be if they missed the ship date.

Spitty:
In the confirmation email they sent you with your customer number and order number, there should be a link to the right of your order number to a form so you can change your order.

if you check Your online account, there should also be a link around there too.

Now when you ask to change specs, they cancel your previous order and issue a new order number, putting you in the back of the line again (which is what happened to me, twice).

Good luck, and watch out for pricing. I was overcharged and had to call to get it fixed.

D

Edit: I just called order status, and even though my order was placed today, it's already in Production - Building stage. That was darn fast.
