OS wouldn't load!

About a week and a half ago I went to turn on my sager and Windows would not load. It would just stay in the 'Windows XP pro' boot up screen. I had recently installed the memory stick drivers upgrade. I noticed that the squares that go across a bar in the windows boot up screen were going very slow. What do those squares represent though? Before this problem i noticed that when i turned up the volume to a certain point through the headphone jack I got a loud constant 'EEEEEHHH!'

Anyways, today i was getting ready to send it back when I decided to try to boot it up again. It LOADED! . I suspect it might be the hard drive. Is there anyway to test the health of my HD or memory? Should I start backing up my files? Is it time to purchase a new HD? Am I covered by the warrenty?

What else could it be? Any help/info is appreciated. TY

-Edit- I forgot to mention that the keyboard would not respond. I hooked up my desktop keyboard to try to boot in safe mode.

Yes, you're covered by the warranty. The keyboard is not working now? You canflip it up and make sure it's plugged in correctly. Also, you can jump into the bios and reset default settings (using the external one). If the KB still doesn't work in the bios or before Windows boots call Sager tech support for help/RMA. If the KB does work, back your drive info up and format/reload Windows. If it ever has the boot problem again after that you can run diag tools such as the ones HERE.
