Can this be it? Panasonic Toughbook Y2

I think I found the one. I was searching on CNET for notebooks, so I was playing with the option tabs. I wanted to see if any 14.1' display notebooks were under 4 lbs and to my surprise one popped up, the Panasonic Toughbook Y2. After looking at the full specifications this notebook has to be the one for me.

Panasonic Toughbook Y2
Intel Pentium M 1.3GHz LV
256MB DDR SDRAM
40GB HDD
Built-in DVD-ROM/CD-RW Drive
14.1' display 1400x1050 SXGA+
3.3 lbs
6 hours 30 minutes of battery life

I don't think any 14.1' display notebook on the market can touch the weight the Panasonic Toughbook Y2 has achieved.

Now the hard part is buying the notebook. Where can I find a reseller that will ship to Canada and have these in stock?

Here are some links to the Panasonic Toughbook Y2

Have you tried portableone.com ?

They sell the Y2 and might ship to canada.. the owner, Ivan, is a pretty cool guy.

CDW sells it as well and does international shipping:

Not sure if they'll charge you an arm and a leg to send it across the border though.

those should be pretty cool, the LV P-M wont put out much at all, the chipset heat is almost negligable.

Don't worry I won't be getting this any time soon. I'll get it when its a little cheaper. The most I will spend is $1500 on a notebook.

the weak point of this machine is definitely the processor.. some of the components i guess they were going iwth for power requirements..

I wouldn't wait on that Panasonic if I were you. They sell for WAY more than that. $1,500 probably won't buy a used one on EBAY a year from now. I don't want to burst your bubble, but chances are that you either need to spend more money or pick a less expensive notebook. Sorry, I just don't think $1,500 is going to realistically get you one any time soon.

I was waiting for someone to tell me this. Maybe I will use that money on the Panasonic T1, which I also am madly in love with.

I want the Y2 also but the imported version (check out http://www.dynamism.com). It has better specs than the US version although much pricier. I also love the R3 and W2. All of Panasonic's ultralights are beautiful. But aamsel is definately right about the price. They're very expensive even if they are ultraportables but on the other hand the Y2 is the only notebook that I know of that incorporates the 14.1" inch in a 3.3 lb package. If you can go with a 12.1" screen, try the IBM X40. They are a bit expensive also but a lot cheaper than the Panasonics and they're great. I don't have one but I do own a T42 and ThinkPads are my choice of weapon when it comes to being a road warrior.

Not sure where in Canada you're located, but OTA computers (I think it's www.otapc.com ) on College bet. Spadina/Bathurst sells toughbooks and even if they don't have it, they could probably easily get it... (although, i think theirs are around $3000)...

Exactly what I wanted to say. Dynamism's version is ultra sweet but with an ultra price. When my Asus S5NE ULV (Which puts out an even smaller amount of volts than this LV Panasonic) dies out, I'll definitly check out Panasonic's offerings for Ultraportables. Like someone said above, Ultraportables are the true tools for the real roadwarrior . It just can't be beat.

On a side note, I'm glad that many people have come with an interest in Ultraportables here, on a forum where Performance usually is the deciding factor on buying notebooks.
